About us

The Ben Nevis Bar and Restaurant is at the heart of the bustling Highland town of Fort William.

Built in 1806 as an inn for cattle drovers, the award-winning Ben Nevis today attracts a vibrant mix of locals and tourists, drawn by its fantastic food, local beers and whiskies and lively atmosphere.

Newly refurbished with a modern yet traditional Scottish feel, the Ben Nevis has a fast-paced restaurant showcasing the best local produce and fresh seafood alongside hearty favourites – ideal for refuelling before or after the many year-round outdoor activities Fort William has to offer.

There’s also a cosy whisky bar, perfect for enjoying a dram from our impressive whisky range; and a stunning terrace offering spectacular views over Loch Linnhe.

And our friendly team are always on hand to share local knowledge or a friendly chat over the bar!

Entertainment is a big part of the offer at the Ben Nevis, with regular pub quizzes and live music – the perfect end to a day exploring the gateway to the Highlands or tackling Scotland’s most famous Munro, Ben Nevis, after which we are named!

We look forward to welcoming you to the Ben Nevis!.

What a warm and wonderful stop for lunch. The food was amazing. The service was friendly and fast. The fire was toast and the little bit of peet added to the ambiance. This would be a lovely bun to sit back and relax in after a day on Ben Nevis or just to catch up with friends !

Myself and my girlfriend had a fantastic dinner here. The tattie scone nachos and mussels were delicious to start and the fish and chips and steak pie were also lovely. Solid section of beer and whiskies too. The highlight of our visit was our server (according to the receipt he was called Scott) - he clearly loved his job and enjoyed interacting with everyone, his great service truly did make all the difference and he kept up his spirits despite serving the food to a busy bar all by himself! The atmosphere in the bar was very cosy but it did struggle with the -8 temperature outside so was a bit cold but understandable.

I wish I was fatter! I loved every bite of my haggis neeps and tatties and venison burger. The seafood chowder was a dream I wish I could do back home. Lovely staff, beers great. I wanted proper Scottish food and I got it! Only gave it four stars for service because if busy can be a tad slow but who care in the grand scheme of life. We will be coming back when we book our next holiday to Scotland.

Edit: returned two nights ago for lunch and service was very friendly and helpful. Really good food as always and not as noisy - returning tonight for dinner. Edit for clarification: 10% optional fee added to your order, which is off-putting as I feel this pressures vulnerable and anxious people into tipping, though the staff and food is deserving of 10% if not more. First visit: Food is served until 9:00 pm during the week day, 9:30 pm on the weekend. I had steak and fresh peppercorn with house chips. The steak was cooked perfectly - by default comes medium rare. Chips are fried fresh and have a good crunch. The desserts look great and taste wonderful.

I'd start off by saying I'd certainly come back for drinks. This is a nice pub, it's clean and the staff were very friendly when we visited back in September. We went in once for drinks and once more for food and drink. The food was a bit on the beige side, the fish and chips were acceptable enough but my partner couldn't eat the chicken "panini" (baguette, as the picture shows). Got a few bits of bone in that and didn't enjoy the taste at all, unfortunately. The beer was lovely though, really well kept.
