About us

Built in the 1500s during the reign of Henry VIII, The Bell Inn in Smarden is a popular dining destination promising food and drink fit for a King - with freshly prepared dishes served up alongside local ales and lagers from Faversham’s Shepherd Neame.

It’s a charming and traditional country village pub, picture perfect both inside and out. Tumbling hanging baskets and a Kentish peg-tiled roof greet your arrival, while there are oak beams, flagstone floors and open fires waiting just across the threshold.

Indeed, this is a place that offers a warm welcome in more ways than one. Three separate cosy bar areas each boast an open fire, with a large inglenook fireplace and picturesque wood-burning stove making The Bell an ideal escape from the harsh winter weather.

There’s a large garden, equipped with its own bar and enjoying beautiful views over surrounding countryside - the perfect place to enjoy an alfresco ale or two in the summer.

Disappointed to find the pub was shut on Saturday (20th Jan) at 1:30pm. Walked 30mins from the place our group of 10 were staying for a cheeky few beers. Not sure the opening hours are up to date on here or the website?

Recently moved to the area and this afternoon we went here for Sunday dinner. I had roast chicken which was massive and hubby had a steak and kidney pudding that he said was amazing. The plate was full to the brim with lots of trimmings. We will definitely be going back, and to top it all, the pub is so pretty with all the fairy lights throughout the restaurant. Lovely experience, we would definitely recommend.

Lovely cosy atmosphere surrounded by fairy lights and the food was absolutely delicious. We were a party of 7 and all meals and desserts were exceptional. Will definitely dine here again!

Came upon this pub, apparently originally built around Henry VÌII's time. Lunchtime food is really yummy. Must go back with friends and family.
