About us

welcome to the bell at skenfrith's website where we hope that you will find all the information you require. if not, then please do not hesitate to contact us directly on 01600 750235, we will always be happy to help.

situated in the beautiful county of monmouthshire, the bell at skenfrith, a former 17th century welsh coaching inn and now one of wales's renowned boutique hotels, was completely restored in 2001. carefully and thoughtfully decorated, the polished flagstone floors, oak beams and antique furniture, coupled with comfy sofas and chairs, give the bell its relaxing and easy atmosphere. there are eleven individually designed bedrooms, all with bathrooms ensuite. the kitchen garden, located behind the bell, was established seven years ago and is hugely popular with guests and restaurant customers alike. the bell's seasonal menus reflect the diverse selection of vegetables, fruit and herbs grown there.

overlooking the river monnow, the bell is on the outskirts of the tiny welsh village of skenfrith. with an award-winning restaurant and wine list, it is the ideal place for intimate weddings or special celebrations, quiet and romantic breaks, country pursuits and wonderful long walks. the bell has free wifi but don't expect your mobile to always work.

the bell has created six individual circular walks which guide the walker in and around the skenfrith area. the skenfrith sleuth is an extremely popular children's walk that enables them to search for clues about the history of skenfrith castle (one of the famous marches castles and an important norman stronghold during the 13th century cross-border skirmishes) st. bridget's, the local church and village, situated just across the road, and is an ideal activity for the family at half term or during the school holidays. there are also a great tour of the village details of which can be found at reception.

whatever your reason for visiting, the bell will always welcome you and help to make your visit a memorable one.

The Bell is so nicely situated, especially in summer, it is a great place to safely take the kids paddling or swimming. Then you can pop in for a meal and a drink. I have never stayed overnight as we live so close, but the staff are very friendly and helpful, so I would expect the same level of service in the hotel as the restaurant and bar. A small word of advice, because the river can overflow, if there is a lot of rain, it does flood there. The Bell has put in measures to stop the water entering the place, but best always to check the weather before a visit.

Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday roast with our 5 year old boy. Lots of space. Friendly staff. Amazing amount of food with extra gravy and Cauliflower cheese followed by apple crumble and ice cream. Worth every penny Can't wait to come back 👍🏻

Gorgeous place with warm service and excellent food. Glad I called as well as booking online, because the website allowed me to book two twin rooms when only one was actually available, but happily when I called to book dinner and checked on the room booking Maria was able to reorganise rooms.

We stayed two nights and felt the place was in a good location. There is a castle, walking trails and a river next to the hotel. It was a great place to relax. We have stayed all over the UK and in several countries. I think the Bell has had the best service by far. Maria who served us went above and beyond. She organized a small cheese/meat board as we had a late arrival and checked in on us during our stay. The food was really amazing (+vegetarian options). Definitely worth the visit!

Went here for a belated Valentines meal. Sat by the fire before dinner with a glass of something nice. The decor is lovely and the tables are spaced nicely apart. The staff were attentive but didn't rush us. The food was very good and generous portion. We had no room for dessert. Overall a very pleasant evening.
