Fantastic steak and stilton pie. Very good quality pie, generous amount of filling.

Room 4 was stuffy, tired and smelled strongly (and persistently) of chip fat. Probably due to the extractor fan that cycled on and off outside the window all night. Mattress was very poor - turned it over but still could feel springs. Had little sleep so checked out after one night rather than two - went to Travelodge! When explaining to staff in the morning they said they could have moved us - but that's not something you want to do in the middle of the night, and misses the point; this very poor room would simply be rented to the next customers. We don't usually post negative reviews, as we know staff work hard in these places, but this was a very poor experience and wouldn't want others to have the same.

Sadly one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Tiny double room that should never have been made a double, it was obviously a single room and hotel owners decided to put a 4ft double bed in it pushed up against one wall so you have to camber out the end of the bed. Extremely dated decor in room and in hotel. Room dirty, they'd never though about cleaning under the bed! Very functional bathroom and no toiletries provided which is pretty poor as even the most basic £30 B&B will have these. I was warned when booking it was a small double, but had no idea it could be that small. When I complained it was just too small for 2 people to use and not fit for purpose I was told there was noting they could do as hotel was full, OK understand that, but I then asked if we could leave and was told I'd have to pay for 2 nights stay out of my 3 night booking. So we decided to stay and put up with it but cancelled the last night and relocated to Horwood House down the road which had a Sunday offer for the same price and was perfect! Avoid the small double room and probably avoid the hotel. It needs a complete refurbishment which I appreciate is very expensive, but you can't let a room like ours which was basically horrible.

Could not fault the staff in any way. Polite and welcoming. The food served was great too. Unfortunately the only mar of the 3 night stay was the issue with the tv reception. There was none. All channels had very weak or no signal and the room I was in was in a dead spot for guest Wi-Fi so kept dropping off. As a single occupant, keeping yourself entertained was difficult. On the final night I sat down on the stool in the bedroom and was pierced by a protruding screw. 1 of 4 actually, used to secure the frame to the seat pad. Not a pleasant feeling. People, food and location perfect. Room not so.

Lovely olde worldy hotel. An absolute maze of rooms which is a bit confusing for the first time visitor. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. My room was at what seemed to be the very top of the building and although it was a beautiful room, it was a fair climb, in heels, especially with luggage! I would never ever ask for assistance, but it would have been a nice touch to be offered some help since I was on my own. There was a mini fridge in the room and also a hairdryer which was great, although the plugs were hard to reach! Bed was comfy and plenty of windows to let in the fresh air overnight. Breakfast the following morning was adequate but I wouldn’t write home about it. It was a self serve buffet style breakfast. The food was a little on the cold side and not all that delicious unfortunately. I did have an offer of an egg, freshly cooked to my preference - I chose a fried egg and it was lovely. The rest of what was on my plate was just ‘ok’. To sum up the bell is a very quaint place & Obviously steeped in history (I had winding gear on my ceiling! I felt it was a shame it was wrapped up though, I suppose to protect peoples heads from bumps, but looking after their head is up to them? No? Sad times of the world we now live in?) would love to know more about this place; and the pies seem to be a thing, although I didn’t try any this time. They sounded soooo delicious though! I would definitely go back to spend a bit longer there; find more out about the place. In trainers just in case!!! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
