About us

The Lilley Arms is situated only a stone's throw between the two towns of Hitchin and Luton. What was once a former coaching inn built in 1705, has now been a home to the Brown family since 1984 and is set in the tranquil and picturesque village of Lilley. The majority of its historic character still stands in the roots of the pub as do our efforts to please everyone who walks through the door. There are miles of green lanes to explore, perfect for walkers, cyclists or horseback riders (we have a hitching rail to tie your horse up to). You could go for walks ranging from 20 minutes to several hours.

Once a tenancy, The Lilley Arms is now a 'free house' offering a range of wines, gins, other spirits, and an ever-changing range of real ale. Our main priority is to serve home-cooked food at reasonable prices. We can also cater for vegetarians or most other dietary requirements. We open at 12 pm from Monday to Sunday for drinks. We finish lunch at 2 pm during the week, 2:30 pm on a Saturday and 3 pm on a Sunday. Usually, Sundays are one of our busiest days due to our popular roast dinners, so it is advisable to book in advance. In the evenings we serve food from 7 pm to 9 pm, but unfortunately not on Tuesdays and Sundays. Pre-booking for dinner is essential. We do, however, cater for any type of occasion, from christenings to funerals, at any point of the day. You can choose from a selection of venues to suit your requirements. Right from a small, cosy snug to a converted barn complete with its own bar and a garden that can accommodate up to 80 people, we have it here.

We offer accommodation in three en-suite bed and breakfast rooms at reasonable prices which are perfect for walkers, bird watchers, holidays or business trips. There are tables in the beautiful garden during the summer and lovely fires in the bar and restaurant during the winter. We welcome everyone including dog owners. Dogs can come inside the bar or the garden but aren't allowed to enter the food areas. However, you can sit in the snug or bar with them to have your food. The parking is in the courtyard. You will also find a lot of free space out in the front of the pub and it is only 2 miles away from Luton, and just off the A505 on the way to Hitchin. It is the perfect place to come and enjoy yourself.

We visited on a lunchtime, nice old quaint village pub with good parking. The lunch menu was good and the quality and value of the meals we ordered was really rather good. The service was fine though they were busy which was good to see. Some of the nicest and best value pub lunches we have had in a long time.

Hadn't been here for a good few years, but was pleasantly surprised... service was good and the food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced, also well cooked, πŸ‘πŸ‘to the chef...also they sell Aspells cider which is my favourite so that was an added bonus..will definitely be back ...

Been visiting this quaint pub for approx. 30 years but only in the summer time as indoors is a bit cramped. However the rear garden can be entertaining with various on site and visiting birds and animals paying a visit if you are lucky. Also a good range of beers/drinks and food at reasonable prices. We'll worth a visit.

Didn't use the rooms, so cannot comment. Called in for food after working in the area. Traditionally old style pub, with wooden floors. Lovely chilled out atmosphere Polite friendly welcoming staff. Dog friendly, our furbaby received treats & a bowl of water. Lovely tasty food. Will be going back again.

Fabulous Sunday lunch in this quaint little village pub. Food is home cooked and delicious and very reasonable too. Beer was well kept and there was a good selection available. Everything was spotlessly clean and they had lovely welcoming fires lit too. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming as were the landlords. This really is a little gem and we look forward to visiting again soon.
