Beautifully refurbished with its fireplaces, flagstones floors and beamed ceilings, the pub is stylish, cosy and comfortable.
We have a spacious restaurant, relaxed conservatory and a light and airy garden room which provide a choice for dining and relaxing. The newly built garden room leads straight out onto our urban garden (a fantastic place for dining in the summer)
On our menus, the emphasis is on local suppliers, the freshest ingredients and seasonal produce. We let the food do the talking, with our daily fish specials made from top quality fish straight from the market.
Alongside our menus, our drinks list boasts a wide selection of Continental lagers, real ales and organic juices. The wine list is carefully sourced including boutique wineries and over 30 wines by the glass (sourcing was fun)

Stayed in a dog friendly coach house room. Super comfy and quiet, lovely bath in the room. All the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Always happy and smiling. Had a full English breakfast which was absolutely amazing! Also had Sunday lunch yesterday with family: service again was exceptional. Starters (note that some are ‘bar snacks): pork belly bites- were amazing, perfectly cooked, crispy and soft. Calamari- very small portion but tasty, halloumi fries- tasty but a little small, kofta- very very small but tasty. Roast 3 meats was fantastic and huge portion, cooked perfectly. Fish and chips- best I’ve had in a long while. Cauli & cheesy leak side was very tasty and a good size.
Unfortunately the worst restaurant experience I've had. We had booked a table for lunch and our food took 1h 25m to arrive. My partner had to order and collect her own drink from the bar after waiting 20 minutes for hers (it never arrived) Sadly not an isolated incident as other tables also faced the same issues. I've never walked out of a restaurant before but unfortunately today I had to. Not a staff issue but a management issue whom was nowhere to be seen whilst his/her staff tried their best to cope with the situation. Far better restaurants in Bedford at a much more reasonable price.
Ordered an afternoon tea for my parents as a birthday surprise and unfortunately it was dreadful and a complete waste of c£40. Sandwiches weren’t as described on the menu (even though the menu said nothing can change from the prescribed ones); cakes were massive and potentially shop bought; lighting & ambience terrible - black table dressings in a dark room plus my parents were also placed in the back on their own, so no atmosphere. Service ok and apparently the tea was drinkable. Would not recommend at all.
We haven't stayed at the hotel but went to the pub with friends. We wanted it to be a really nice dinner for some special occasion but unfortunately it wasn't entirely how we planned. Food and drinks were good but we have been waiting ages for someone to come. Obviously I know that Fridays can be busy but the staff didn't even check on us and we couldn't call anyone despite a desperate attempt. Pity we won't be coming anytime soon. There are many places to choose from. And we wanted an unforgettable night out. Well, it was... For the wrong reason.
This has the possibility to be an absolutely outstanding venue for dining. However, (and its a big however) the food is extortionately overpriced for the portion sizes. My partner and I were unbelievably shocked when the food arrived. The only saving grace to avoid a complaint was that the food tasted good (not outstanding, just good). The place is decorated to a high standard (very calm and relaxed feel to the place. Very homely). If the portion sizes were addressed, I would go back, but as it stands, we will avoid.
