The Bear has plenty of off road parking and pleasant outdoor spaces for seating in warm dry weather. There is a spacious canopied open area to shelter from showers and for smokers. Inside the quaint traditional decor is welcoming and the bar and surrounding rooms offer different seating options. There are rooms with open fires and dogs are welcomed. Hotel rooms, conference rooms and a more formal dining room exist but I did not see or book those. We had coffee served with delicious shortbread and later enjoyed a light lunch. The staff are often busy elsewhere so ordering or paying can involve a short wait. I think prices are steep. A latte coffee was £4.35 and soup, though delicious, was £7.50. (January 2024) The location is great for walking being between Rodborough and Minchinhampton National Trust commons where rare orchids and larks can be seen and the area is freely grazed by cattle and horses in season. Currently Waxwings are a star attraction!

I took my wife and daughters here for a family meal, I was so shocked at the way the management (I'm pretty sure were managers) spoke to there staff, I have never heard people talk down to others in such a nasty way it really stuck with me and I will certainly no longer ever want to go there if this is a common occurrence. I have never written a review before but I thought I would be so upset to know if anyone ever spoke to my daughters this way that I felt like I needed to post a bad review. The poor staff members look so scared what a horrible atmosphere.
Stayed here on work trip, been many times previously. Great location as photos show. Stayed in the extended part, Country House, good size room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with good shower. Complimentary teas and coffees all good quality. Iron and hairdryer (not that I need the latter). Nice restaurant with quality food, nice bar with plenty of different areas to sit, even with nice open fireplace. Staff are friendly. Would happily recommend for personal stay if in the area.
Always loved this place. Fascinating old building with open fires and with amazing views from the restaurant. Delicious and generously portioned Sunday roast and not too expensive. Highly recommended!
Great hotel full with little surprises :) Love the little touches like biscuits, speciality coffee and chocolates. The bed was really comfy. Overall the room was lovely and spacious. Due to the age of the property the squeaky floorboards are inevitable, also the noise from the main road can also be heard from the bathroom window despite of being closed fully.
