The hotel is conveniently located in Burford with plenty of parking behind the hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very cosy and were well heated despite 0°C outside. Great comfortable bed. The rooms are not huge, but a good size to create a nice atmosphere. The fireplaces in the lounge area were excellent. I would stay here any time again.
Just had an evening meal in the bar as we do every year around Xmas. This evening was thoroughly disappointing-the service was appallingly slow and amateurish, and the food looked like no effort had been made at all. The adult burgers were garnished with nothing but a pathetic, soggy bit of lettuce and a slice of tomato, and nothing on the plate apart from chips. Surely you would expect more for £20 a burger?? The children’s burgers didn’t even have that - just a beefbuger and a chicken burger in a cheap bun. We’ve been coming here for 10 years but this place has taken a nose dive in terms of service and food. Won’t be going back unfortunately.
1 night with friends a pre Xmas get together. A lovely 600 year old building. Nicely appointed. Room large and comfortable. Bathroom modern. Staff very helpful. Was in main building and no lift. 1 couple were in Garden room outside. Main meal I had expected an Xmas menu but it was not so no crackers or hat or turkey. 35 pounds off the room rate is towards the meal. Enjoyed the 2 courses we had. But my husbands rump lamb was not that tender with a bit of gristle. None of the party had a sweet. 2 had steak and were happy with it. Nice fires in 2 rooms and bar. Complementary cocktail 🍸 I choose unwisely as it was not nice but the others liked theirs. It was a Wednesday night 13.12 so it was quiet no buzz. But a nice place to stay
Attended a wedding at the venue. Very nice venue indeed but also very friendly staff - couldn't do enough for you and terrific food. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and breakfast the next morning was very good!
We chose this hotel as our accommodation for a wedding event, and it didn't disappoint. The hotel overall was excellent, and our room was particularly pleasing – clean, comfortable, and offering a lovely view of the garden, which added to the peaceful ambiance of our stay. The breakfast provided a good selection, and I opted for the full English breakfast, as shown in the picture, along with some croissants. While the breakfast was enjoyable, I did find that the full English could have been more substantial, and the sausage could have been cooked a bit longer or replaced with an alternative. However, this is a matter of personal preference, and it's the only reason I'm rating it 4 stars instead of 5. In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. It offers a pleasant stay.
