As a non resident you are not welcomed. Bartender was very grumpy, the amount of Whisky is unreal. The service was beneath contempt. Its against the commun Scottish hospitality.

Attended on my own for a pint and a meal in the bar at 6pm in the evening. The place was near empty. The guy behind the bar was rude and obnoxious.., to both me and the group in front of me. As I hadn’t booked I didn’t get a meal. So much for customer service.

Title: Rather Disappointing Experience at Ballygrant Inn, Islay The Ballygrant Inn in Islay promises an idyllic location and an excellent selection in their whisky bar. However, my recent stay left much to be desired, and I will actively avoid this accommodation in the future. Here is my detailed review: From the moment I entered my room, I was greeted by an unpleasant odor reminiscent of old socks. It was evident that the cleaning staff had neglected to address the odor issue. This unpleasant smell was pervasive and greatly affected my entire stay. Another issue was the bathroom's unventilated radiator. The unpleasant noises and inadequate heat distribution made showering an uncomfortable experience. It is disappointing that basic maintenance tasks were not properly carried out. The breakfast room was also far from satisfactory. Instead of a pleasant atmosphere, it made me feel nauseous due to the presence of old, neglected, and infested vegetable plants. It is completely unacceptable that there were lice flying around, landing on the coffee and food. Not only is this unhygienic, but it also poses health risks. Furthermore, the staff was severely understaffed. The occasionally unfriendly treatment by the staff further added to my dissatisfaction. Now, in an effort to mention something positive, I must say that the whisky bar had an impressive selection. It was enjoyable to have a variety of whisky options and the opportunity to sample some excellent varieties. However, this is the only positive aspect of my stay that is worth mentioning. Additionally, I would like to mention that even the entrance to the bar was disappointing. It was covered in mold, which created an unappealing and unsanitary first impression, see attached picture. The presence of mold further demonstrated a lack of proper maintenance and attention to cleanliness throughout the establishment. Overall, my experience at Ballygrant Inn in Islay was rather disappointing, 2,4/5 stars. The odor in the rooms, the poorly maintained bathroom radiator, the unhygienic conditions in the breakfast room, and the understaffed, occasionally unfriendly personnel significantly impacted my stay. I cannot recommend this accommodation and will only suggest visiting the bar in the future.
