A large early 19th century pub with two bars and a sizeable games area to the far end of the "public". Note the attractive contrasting roof tile pattern. Over the mantelpiece in the public bar is a mirror with the names of all landlords going back to 1841. The current landlord is the longest serving licensee in the West Northants District. The pub used to share the building with the village bakery (hence the name) and less desirably perhaps, with the undertaker! The saloon bar, to the right of the main entrance, shows the full extent of where the original pub used to be. This is a true village local and most of the activity takes place within the public bar. As with many village pubs these days, this one does not open at lunchtimes during the week. The convivial landlord (a former Phipps drayman), is only too happy to engage in conversation about pubs, breweries and beer! There is an enlightened ale policy here and despite being limited to the Enterprise Inns beer portfolio, he avoids stocking the "National Blands".
Nice pint, friendly bar staff
Nice pub! The locals are a little bit clicky but theres a nice open fire in the snug and a pool table round the other end of the main bar area. Will absolutely go again sometime.
Cosy local pub with friendly staff / owners! Great selection of beer with nice pub snacks including bags of sweets, nice touch!
Went for Subday lunch which was really excellent. The main menu was on offer as well, with a good selection to suit most tastes. Beautifully cooked and presented. Absolutely delicious, and competitively priced. Definitely coming back.
Very nice pub, good beer, good food, good service for a busy day. Would be 5 star but gravy is served in thimbles and even tho you ask for more you basically get another thimbles worth.
