A very quirky historic building. Having spent a day around the Rydal area we popped in for an early evening meal. We ordered at the bar and were shown to a dining room. The food was delicious. However, It felt a little odd as we were the only people in the dining room and people walked up and down the corridor looking in, it felt as if we weren't meant to be there.

A beautiful quirky old building. The room was stunning and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were super friendly too. The only drawback was that, as with a lot of old buildings, you get a lot of creaks and groans in the night, which might give you trouble if you're a light sleeper. The food here is 10/10 though. I had an beautiful fish and chips and my partner loved the pie of the day (steak and ale). Would absolutely go back.

Had lunch in here with friends. Food was lovely and served quickly. Staff were polite and friendly and it's dog friendly. Had one of the local beers on offer. Dinner selection looked good too. November not the best time of year to sit outside but worth remembering it has seating outside for the summer months

Popped in here for Sunday lunch, it was a little later than hoped for but eventually ended up there at 2:30pm. Got a nice table in front of the fire. Our 2 dogs were very well catered for also. Great Sunday lunch! Belter of a Yorkshire pudding too. My better half was very intrigued with the badger feed cameras, evidently we weren't there at the right time for that but for people staying the night or just visiting the bar later at night - certainly worth a pint or 7. Great staff, great place, great food. No complaints at all.

We booked a table for 7.30. Got there on time and were met with “could you be quick ordering because the kitchen is waiting to close” we ordered quickly. The food was great. We were seated in a big dining room on our own, the decor was old. Depressing and tired. The staff kept coming in to see if we had finished. We were not asked if the food was ok. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks, which we did, and the second we had finished the plates were cleared. No offer of a desert, which we would have had. We emerged from our dingy room to find both members of staff eating a meal in the bar area. One got up from his meal to take payment. £95 for 4 mains and 4 drinks. Not cheap. We then watched a badger tucking into its supper in the garden, which was lovely. Sadly the good food was badly let down with possibly the worst customer service I have ever been subjected to in the hospitality industry
