About us

The date on the exterior of this friendly bar says 1887 and there's an appropriately old-fashioned atmosphere on the inside too. The first thing that strikes you is the central circular bar, with its traditional brass rail. Elsewhere, the walls are decorated with all manner of old bottles, books and jars which, along with the real fireplace, give the impression of a homely, well lived-in space. As a result, McCabes is a popular destination for locals and tourists, ranging from shoppers to families, weekend revellers and, thanks to the six televisions, football fans wanting to catch up with the big fixtures.

2nd visit today. Had food on second visit. Mixed grill was best I've had in a long while. The better half had sirloin steak which she says she thoroughly enjoyed. Not in largs often but, always eat here.

Good pub for a drink but absolutely disgusting food my wife had hunters chicken and it was sent back because it was cold I had the mixed grill the rump steak under cooked the chicken was burnt on the outside and under cooked in the middle and the gammon steak looked as if it was cooked for about 1 minute and then run over by a bus think they should invest in a chef instead of using a so cold cook as even hospital food is better I would say if you want well cooked tasty food then go to the GEORGE across the road as it’s much better.

Great pub for watching the Sheff Wed v Hull game (despite the result!). Good value food and friendly staff too. Will definitely be back as Hull have another couple of televised games coming up.

Food very bad chicken was not for human consumption , side salad was a bunch of dryed out rocket nothing else ! The chef needs to smile & have customer service, also his uniform really badly creased & discoloured . The bar tender /waiter was friendly & mannerly . The Chicken that bad looking I had my dog with me & I. wouldn’t feed the dog it . Nice chips that was it .

What a fantastic pub!! So much positive and effective change has been done to this place and you can't half tell x I visited here with my family and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Team are fantastic and very attentive, food was delish. They have a great range of drinks and food menus to suit everyone including my fussy child x overall I really recommend this pub to anyone looking for great food and drink. Thanks so much to the general manager Jamie for giving me and my family a great day, we will definitely be back xx
