If you enjoy good food and wine, appreciate great beers and want the very best service, then you will love The George.
A great pub serving locally sourced and freshly prepared food as well as award-winning local and world beers. Perfect for any occasion, the pub has a large courtyard garden and a meeting room for up to 14 people. Special events and functions catered for.
Had a very lovely meal with my partner. Service couldn't be faulted. David was very helpful and a young girl who's name I didn't catch was also super friendly. Will be back
Visited the George this afternoon and was pretty disappointed! Nice pub, nice setting and food appeared nice. We were handed the Sunday menu, only after ordering were we told today was roast dinner only, we weren’t advised this when being seated. Roast beef was £19 and it was nice, but very small. We had 2 roast potato’s and 2 small slices of beef with a handful of vegetables. Way overpriced for what we got. Staff were particularly rude, we overheard them explaining the lack of menu choice today a number of times with other customers being frustrated. Might have just been a bad day overall but pretty disappointed with our visit.
Very poor selection of meals available. What came was awful. Very disappointing meals. We were a group of three but all the meals were of very poor quality. Poor service. I asked for a sweet sherry but what came can only be described as a syrup, must have been kirsch. It was definitely not a sherry. Apparently that's all they had, they asked if I wanted ice in it! In sherry?? I would suggest The George be avoided.
We visited this place for Xmas lunch today with our family and daughter. We are absolutely devastated with how our Christmas has been ruined by the diabolical meal they served us. I’m mortified I trusted the reviews. It was absolutely disgraceful and to think they had the audacity to try and charge £90 per head is beyond me this place should have an inspection to see if this food is actually fit for consumption. I’ve had better meals out of a tin. Avoid like the plague.
Fabulous steak and ale pie. The meat was so tender and delicious. The pastry had great taste - although too hard for a fork but ok with fingers. Vegetables SO fresh. Bar and serving staff very engaging and a really nice decorated pub. We didn't stay so cannot comment on rooms. Lovely garden space for outside eating or drinking.
