About us

This Grade II listed building has occupied the cobbled high street for more than 900 years (it’s even mentioned in the Domesday Book), but now its quirky and distinctive rooms have been given a contemporary twist with plush furnishings, cool iron furniture and freestanding roll-top bathtubs. The food here is pretty special too: our locally sourced menu changes with the seasons and we specialise in tempting desserts, perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

For culture-vultures, the very best of Frome’s art and heritage is on our doorstep, and for those keen to get out into Somerset’s stunning countryside there are plenty of attractions to see, including the dramatic cliffs and caves of Cheddar Gorge, the beauty of the Mendip Hills, and the exotic big cats of Longleat Safari and Adventure Park.

Something of a triumph of style over substance. Stayed as a hotel guest, a big attic room with free standing bath but radiators didn't work, no milk on tea tray, laminate floor squeaks at every step, mattress collapsing somewhat. Can't fault the restaurant food but we were gobsmacked to be told at 9.30 (6 in our party) that the restaurant and bar was closing at 10.00 as it was 'so quiet' and we would have to get out. The bar was humming and people were still comkng in however. After some Frank exchanges, and some negotiation, the manager relented but it made for an unpleasant atmosphere at the end of what had been a good night.

Great place for a drink, good ales, and snacks or meals. We had several children and they found a space for them. Nice covered and heated outdoor space. Great staff

Had a great say, Say a few years ago and just as good. Very friendly staff, went the extra mile to ensure our stay was a goo one. excellent breakfast. had a n evening meal and that was also excellent. location is good for the centre. Parking is good and not to far away, but check where it is or call the hotel as if you don't know where it is it can be tricky to get to. Also remember this is a building that is hundreds of years old, which adds to it charm but can be quirky, which is why we like it.

We had Sunday lunch. The beef was over done and tough as old boots. The Yorkshire puddings were also well over and not nice. The vegetables were really good. Roast potatoes were superb. The side of cauliflower cheese was very good and highly recommended. I'll opt for the pork or chicken next time. Service poor.

We had a party of 9 adults and 6 kids. They emailed asking us to pre order from their normal menu which was great and suited everyone. When we arrived they had reserved a room for us which was brilliant. We were greeted in a really friendly way, the service throughout (both drinks and food) was great. Everything was as we had hoped and it was a great experience! Thank you!
