The Anchor Inn is a Grade 2 listed buildng and was built in the 18th century as a coaching inn because of its position on the A6 the main route from London to Derby and Manchester.
It has undergone many changes in the 19th and 20th century with the pub brewing its own beer up to the mid 20th century. The pub is now ran by Neil, his partner Lucie and her brother Krystian who heads up the kitchen team. We are a dog friendly pub with our 4 legged friends being allowed in our bar & outside areas. You are even able to reserve tables in our bar area if you would like to dine with us and have dogs with you.
We offer the same menu for our bar, dining area and outside to keep things simple and avoid confusion over what can be eaten where. We have a 32 seat dining area downstairs a large bar area and our upstairs drink & dining room with another 28 seats for casual dining which can be increased for private dining. This room also has its own heated servery area allowing us to offer hot buffets and private carveries.

Our team of 17 Estate agents had our Christmas meal here 8th December 2023 food was delicious plentiful and hot and service thank you all
Came here for our evening meal with my four children and a friend with her child, we sat and after looking at the menu had all decided one what to have, my friend ordered her food while I sat with the children and then it was my turn to order. I went to the bar to be told that if I order food I would be waiting an hour, I asked if that was the same for my friend who had ordered just before and they said no because she ordered first, no staff mention to her that the restof us would be waiting and hour for food. So my only option was to leave my friend and her child and take my children home to eat. Having three very upset children that couldn't enjoy the evening we'd planned. Not good service when the staff knew we were all one table. I probably won't return as the embarrassment of having to get four crying children out of a busy pub while people looked on is not something I'd like to risk repeating.
The quality of the food it’s good however the last 2 times I have gone in to eat, they have just decided that they are no longer serving food. There is no consistency with times of food service and therefore it’s difficult to rely on going there for food. Last time I went in for food at 3pm on a Saturday they just told me ‘no more food is being made today’ with no explanation. Twice I’ve had to take my family somewhere else to eat because of this.
Had my son's 50th here after a recommendation, and I have to say everything was absolutely perfect! All the staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food was awesome! The room looked amazing - the staff decorated it beautifully at no extra cost. Big thanks to a wonderful family business for making my son's 50th an occasion to remember ❤ Just to add, we've also had lunch here & the food, once again, was fantastic. Highly recommended on all counts 👌
