Amazing place. 5 stars ain't enough. Lovely drive there, very picturesque. VERY lovely warm welcoming family type atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The warm fire welcomes you in then the staff welcome you with just as much warmth. Pick a seat with an amazing view and the very accommodating staff see to your every need, lovely bunch. Menu Amazing. Loads to choose from. Traditional country pub dishes, pizza's, kids bits, local specials, all fresh ingredients. Beautiful local Ales to wash it down with. Particularly recommend the lasagne and fish and chips. Real hand cut chips. MASSIVE fillet of fish nice and fresh. Mushy peas were lush. Lasagne WOW!!! JUST WOW!!!! Also had a pizza between us in the past and that was LUSH. Unfortunately.... I do have to mark you down a bit for not letting me take the dog home with me. Can't wait to go back.

Came here for an evening meal whilst staying in self catering accomodation not far away and will 100% be finding a reason to visit again. Staff were friendly and welcoming, dining area was clean and spacious and the food was out of this world. Myself and my husband both opted for one of their home made pies and all I can say is wow! Firstly they were actually home made which may sound silly but a lot of places you find things clearly aren't. The pastry was light and flakey, they were absolutely bursting with filling and tasted incredible. My husband has not stopped raving about the chicken curry pie! My only disappointment was that I am recovering from illness so couldn't manage more than a quarter of the pie but that is by no means a reflection on the establishment and I am looking forward to returning when I am in full health to really enjoy it! Thank you so much, can't wait to return!

Great pub, and a good size. Inside is exceptionally smart, beams, exposed brick work and so on. A huge selection of food when we got there, a tough choice!! We chose wisely, as the food was ... superb in every way, decent portions with out being massive, the Guinness was spot on as well. They have a childrens menu (you need to ask), mid week it was busy, so worth booking. We had to check the bill, because it seemed too cheap for food of that quality, it was right. under 60 pounds for 3 drinks, 3 x mains (1 childrens menu) and starters. Excellent value and stunning quality.

Didn't stay in the hotel, just went for Sunday lunch. There is 14 of us so not an easy booking for them. Our meals were beautiful, as always. The only let down is one or two staff who are quite sultry. As long as you look past that it's a great place for food.

Visited for Sunday lunch, good selection of traditional meats along with a selection of home made pies. I had leek pudding and mince dinner with seasonal vegtable,my wife had the leg of lamb dinner complete with a n extremely tasty Yorkshire pudding. Prices are really competitive. The Anchor Inn boasts spectacular views of the derwent valley.
