Set in the picturesque West Dorset village of Evershot, this lovely old stone-built Inn boasts worthy history. Originally known as The Kings Arms, it once brewed its own ales with water drawn from the source of the River Frome.
Welcome to this quality 16th Century coaching inn that Thomas Hardy called 'The Sow & Acorn' in 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles'.
All the original charm and character of 400 years exudes from the beamed bars and log fires that greet guests on arrival. Nestling among the rolling hills in an area of outstanding beauty and close to the British Heritage Coastline, you have the perfect base for exploring or walking.
The ten en suite bedrooms are individually decorated and have their own style and character, each taking a name from Hardy's "Tess of the d'Urbervilles". Well behaved dogs are very welcome!
Only the best fresh local ingredients are used to produce excellent meals, in either of the bars or the restaurant. The two oak-panelled bars offer real ales, as well as a comprehensive wine list.
Managers Alex Armstrong-Wilson and Jack Mackenzie look forward to welcoming you to the Acorn Inn soon!.

We have eaten here often and never been disappointed. Stayed one night in a lovely room as well. A great place to eat or stay if you are in the area
Had a lovely stay here. Great service in the bar & restaurant, delicious food and spotlessly clean room. Sadly this was all very badly let down at checkout, when Sue added an, as yet still unexplained, extra £100 to our bill. On querying this, we were made wait at reception while a big deal was made of fully checking with the bar and restaurant (who had already accurately recorded everything we'd had) to fully itemise our bill, and eventually issue a refund. Had this not happened, we would not have left feeling ripped off, not only due to the mysterious addition to our bill, but also as the itemised bill clearly showed that the dinner, bed & breakfast "deal" we'd been talked into made our dinner more expensive than if we'd simply ordered from the menu.
Sunday lunch. Faultless, delicious, flavoursome, friendly. We had calamari, crab pâté, slow-cooked pork, sticky toffee. Great wine list. Lovely old historic pub. Highly recommended.
We stayed here at the end of August for my husbands birthday. We had a fantastic stay. Everything I read on previous reviews was correct. Staff are superb, a really happy, polite and helpful team who go above and beyond to make your stay special. We had drinks in the beautiful historic bar, prices very reasonable and great atmosphere. Dinner was Michelin star worthy. Breakfast the following morning just as good. Great place to stay for visiting beautiful Sherborne, Montacute house and of course wonderful Thomas Hardys houses. Thoroughly recommend a trip here.
We got married in the beautiful village of Evershot and chose The Acorn Inn for our reception. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. It was the most incredible day thanks to the whole dream team who went above and beyond for us in making it perfect. A special mention to Natalie who was incredible in helping us plan the big day, answering all our questions, sizing up backdrops, checking our invites, talking through menus, drinks, timings, rooms. From our first meeting, we left knowing this was where we wanted to have our wedding and we are so glad we made this decision. All the food over the weekend was exceptional. Natalie and team even organised a separate bridal room to get ready with a bridal buffet which was so special! The staff could not have done more for us, we received so many compliments from our guests about how amazing the staff were and how great the food was - the Apple of Love dessert being a particular hit. We met with Ana who was so great, creating vegetarian menus for us and was able to make a vegan alternative to all our dishes which we super appreciated. The rooms were so comfortable, all the guests staying slept so well and were made to feel really welcome from their check-in. Everyone at The Acorn were so genuine and wonderful, it just made the day so much better and we left feeling on absolute cloud 9. Such a special place with such amazing people. Thank you all, we seriously could not have asked for more. Im & Tom x
