About us

The Goddard Arms is a friendly hotel located right in the heart of Swindon’s Old Town, an area rich in history. The Goddard Arms is an old converted Coaching Inn where horse-drawn coaches used to change horses en-route to their next destination.

We are also right next door to the beautiful 50 acre Lawns Park which was once the estate of the Goddard family and where the name of our hotel comes from.

There are easy links to the M4 and M5 plus the hotel is just a 15 minute walk from the closest bus station and 30 minutes from Swindon train station.

We have 17 rooms which all come equipped with a hairdryer, TV, shampoo and tea/coffee making facilities. Most of our rooms have a desk for those that need to do a bit of work (Wi-Fi access included) and a bath so you can relax at the end of a long day. Rooms do vary slightly, so be sure to give us a call on 01793 619090 for confirmation.

Breakfast is included in most of our room rates and we offer free parking to guests staying at the hotel or visiting the pub. Please validate your parking on check-in or request a free parking voucher from the bar. Keep in mind that we are limited on parking spaces, so be sure to arrive promptly if you wish to park onsite.

We are passionate about great British food, our rich heritage of cask ales and newer craft beers, our extensive gin selection and our wine range. From a quick lunch or snacks with a drink after work, to a sit down dinner or a party with canapés and Prosecco – we can cater for you. Well behaved dogs are also welcome in our beer garden.

So disappointed, we usually have a good meal here. Myself and family (11 of us) had a 14.30 booking. We had to wait for half hour to be told what table we had, there was only seating for ten so a bit squashed. Dinner was a very long time coming and several of the meals were cold, the fish was dry and overcooked as was the chicken which couldn’t be cut, possibly microwaved. There was no gravy or veg served at all.

We went for dinner. They didn't have fish n chips but it's probably a good thing, as we changed our order to gammon and mashed and monterrey burger with bacon and chips, also ordered sausage and mashed. Food was excellent, very tasty, all items hot. Such a pleasant environment to enjoy dinner with parents.

Very busy bar area, could do with more late afternoon and evening staff. Having said that the staff were great and friendly, full cooked breakfast was tasty and filling, room was clean and warm. Location perfect for the night life around the old town.

This is the first time I've eaten in the goddards and I don't think I'd go back. My friend had booked lunch because she had eaten breakfast there the week before and was happy with the food she was well impressed. So having enjoyed that we thought Sunday lunch was in order. Arrived the place looked alright, decor a bit tired in need of a refurb. But it was fairly packed. I ordered a pork Sunday lunch and my friend ordered mussels. My pork tasted prepacked not off a joint. Had 1 large parsnip and sweet potato the meal was luke warm but the plates were roasting. Our dog ate most of my dinner. The gravy was hot so it helped. A selection of veg would of been better. The mussels were cold and there was no more.the fries were cold and the crusted bread was from a loaf not as described. My friend ended up having nothing to eat and I ate a bit but not worth the money. I appreciate you refunded her dinner and offered to heat mine up, but by then the day was ruined. I thought being a hotel the food would be fresh and of higher standard. Having eaten in pubs which you expect lesser quality and cheaper I have to say there food was certainly better. Its a real shame.

Went to the pub restaurant for a works do, group of 12 of us but food was all excellent and brought out together. The pub itself was very clean and overall good atmosphere. You also get free parking with a voucher at the bar but staff were very accommodating to extend this for us with us being there for longer than 3 hours. Overall great experience 10/10
