About us

The Oystercatcher is built on the site of a private house that was previously occupied by a Middle Eastern family. They left abruptly at the start of the first Gulf War in 1992, and the building was left derelict for several years before the Oystercatcher came into being.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We hadn’t been to the Oystercatcher for some years, so we thought we would try it again. Our booking was for 7pm and we were greeted by a welcoming staff member showing us to a table. That’s where the service ended. We sat and waited and waited for someone to take our drink order. In the end I had to get up and ask. It wasn’t that busy, so I’m not sure why everything took so long. My husband had the pie, accompanied by a rock hard piece of broccoli, a scruffy looking portion of cabbage and mash potato instead of the chips he asked for. I had the sausages which were BLACK , but this I was told this was how they come, because they are put on a griddle. I was crunching bits of black charred skin. I was told they would be the same if I had a replacement., so I ate them because waiting for something else would have meant I would have been eating alone. I have since read that it is not ideal or healthy to eat burnt blackened food, so saying it’s because they are chargrilled is not really acceptable. The drink service continued to be a problem, waiting an unacceptable time for a second drink to be brought to our table. All in all, not a great place, apart from the cheerful, polite and happy waiter.

We booked a table for 10 people for a celebratory birthday lunch recently. We parked in the ample, free car park and were warmly welcomed by a nice, friendly lady, Mrs Knight. She looked after our party throughout most of the lunchtime until the end of her shift at 3 o'clock. We sat at a long, table in the corner looking out towards the beer garden and main road in the mid distance. Having collected up and served our complex order of drinks, she proceeded to take our lunch order. I personally had the sea bass which, whilst being a little dry and overcooked, was still tasty. Everybody seemed happy with what they had ordered. The place wasn't that full, it being a Monday in mid November, so we felt very comfortable to enjoy our extra special family event. Service throughout was excellent - thanks! I know that those of the family who live close by will be back!

It was a buffet for 19 people after a funeral. The food and service were everything we could hope for and several people commented on how good they thought it was. As I am mobility impaired, I was grateful there was a downstairs toilet as a trip upstairs would not have been welcome. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. I would have appreciated less distance from the disabled parking to the entrance, but otherwise it was a very good venue.

Oh dear. What a shame. Average food, service, but a lovely setting and gardens.... used to be good. If someone says the wines off, ie me, a big wine dri ker, don't argue, I offered the server to smell it, it was the viogner, she just point blank said " it's not" in my day, the old adage was, the customers always right. 14 pounds for a very bland baked camembert, small, just padded bout with bed, worth 8 pounds tops! Drinks in the gardens nice, if not off.... sorry guys, up your game, as its a lively venue.
