When it comes to wine, we don’t do average. Our cellar is brimming with fabulous wines by the bottle or by the glass. Pair your evening with one of our delicious house bottles or for something special, ask to see The Red Book, our handpicked selection of the world’s finest wines. From opulent burgundies to delicate chardonnays, there is something for every palate to enjoy.
A true country dining pub, we pride ourselves on creating menus from the freshest local produce sourced directly from the woodlands, farms and country estates that surround us and we’re very happy to have been awarded 1 AA Rosette and ‘Best Pub’ in 2015 in the coveted GQ Food & Drink awards for our efforts.
All of our game and fish is brought to us by our local suppliers and friends – from our exquisite venison, straight from the nearby estates such as nearby Goodwood and prepared on site, to the Chilgrove wood pigeons, rabbits and trout, plucked from nearby rivers and fields that morning. Goodwood cheeses often appear regularly on our menus. Whatever you try, you can be sure that every dish we prepare has its roots in the beautiful South Downs.

A beautiful pub in a stunning location. We had a 2 night break here with Geoff, our St Bernard. Sarah and the team could not have been more welcoming, taking his photo and adding him to their dog guest book! The rooms were spotless and perfect for our needs, the food was excellent and the service was first rate. Well done everyone, we will be back! Neil, Cath and Geoff.
Had the pleasure of spending a night at The White Horse. Really friendly staff. The accommodation was tastefully furnished and set in a quiet location behind the pub. Dined in the restaurant and was very impressed by the standard and presentation of food but felt the choice was quite limited. Had a great nights sleep and superb breakfast which was cooked to order. Would have no hesitation to return and thoroughly recommend to others.
I just don’t understand why people go to chain hotels when gems like this exist. Quaint country pub, with well kept ales, really great food selections (compared to deep fried everything at Premier Inn) that tasted amazing, served by polite, attentive staff who care about good customer service. Rooms are much better appointed with everything you need, including fresh milk, and bottled water. I paid £85 a night. Premier Inn was £129 plus additional parking. Butcombe Brewery know how to do it right. There’s another pub close by called Royal Oak which is similarly brilliant.
A lovely weekend at this gem in the country with a special birthday meal for the family. We love coming to the White Horse and the welcome was as warm and friendly as always. The White Horse looked beautiful with all the Christmas decorations up. Thank you to all the staff that made our stay so enjoyable.
Sarah & the team at The White Horse are the absolute best! We got married here in August, and they couldn’t have done more to make sure that our day went off without a hitch! From setting up & decorating the venue, to making sure me and the bridesmaids were topped up with bubbles when getting ready, to the gorgeous food & cocktails, and amazing party atmosphere, they really thought of it all! The pub is absolutely gorgeous and every person that came said they would be going back for a stay! Thank you so so much! We will be back! ♥️
