Chose this place for after my father's funeral several years ago as it was well known and local. Place was a good size, we used their own buffet service and the locals are all very friendly.... But. There were many people there and at some point someone (I know now who) decided to scribble things all over the men's toilet walls. I think the buffet had already been taken home by the staff (way too early in my opinion) and I was outside grieving and having a smoke but apparently the owner had come barging into the hall and by all accounts was going absolutely mental at my friend's and family. Now, I still don't know why 'the person' had scrawled what he did and it was totally unacceptable, and so I can understand the owners anger but there are better ways of dealing with things especially on a day like that. I was the older brother and i'd booked the place and if he'd simply spoke to me i'd have completely apologised and paid for the cleaning work.... but I never got the opportunity as I didn't even know what he looked like or where he was and I was a bit all over the place as you can imagine. It should never have happened, and it could have been dealt with no fuss and like men. Apart from that completely out of order writing incident and the apparent reaction that I was reminded by everybody of, it was a nice place, the regulars were all respectful and friendly and it was nice to hold it there as my dad had been there many times as he'd been in the forces so it meant a lot to him and me.
