About us

In the village of Talybont on Usk, at the heart of the Brecon Beacons, there lies a Restaurant with Rooms. A place that by the warmth of it’s welcome, the quality of its fayre and the comfort of its accommodation holds a place in the hearts of folk from far and wide: of walkers and mountain bikers, of couples from Merthyr and families from Munich…. This gem is known as The Traveller’s .

Come in, dry out your boots by a blazing fire, savour roast lamb, fresh salmon or a grilled feta salad, sit back, drink and talk until your head starts to nod, then sink into a bed and dream….of doing it all again tomorrow.

At merely an hour from Cardiff and 3 hours from London, the Brecon Beacons provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you like to hike, bike or simply lie by the canal with a good book, the area has something for you, rain or shine, 12 months a year, and the Travellers is the perfect base from which to enjoy it.

We do hope that you enjoy our web site and look forward to welcoming you here soon. Please feel free to call us for reservations or to help you plan your stay.

A perfect stop over on a 6 day walk along the Cambrian Way. Clean, comfortable rooms and the best breakfast of our trip.

What a beautiful find, the hostess was so welcoming, the rooms are gorgeous in keeping with the building, the location perfect, with the canal at the top of the garden and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Thank you for looking after us Joy, we will be back.

We had a fantastic stay at travellers rest after a long hike over the beacons. Host was excellent and very accommodating. Room was tidy, clean and well kept. The beds were very comfortable and we both had a good night. Breakfast was excellent and of high quality. Would definitely visit again.

Went with a large group of women friends and were delighted to find that we were being given the exclusive treatment. The welcome was warm and genuine, and the dining area is cosy. The food was fantastic. Bear in mind that 13 fussy ladies were having 2 courses each, and not one of us had anything we didn't absolutely love. This is a really special place that we would all heartily recommend.

This has now been converted into a restaurant with B&B rooms and a holiday let. The restaurant area is a very cosy small area with 6 tables plus outside seating so booking is recommended. It sits next to the beautiful gardens all seen through the green oak glazed outside wall. The menu is fairly short but should offer something for everyone. Our food was beautifully prepared and served by extremely friendly staff. There is no rushing and you can take your time. Your bill is hand written, a unique little touch. I would certainly recommend this to my guests. A small point to mention. There are cats on the premises to be aware of if you are allergic to them. Another excellent meal tonight.
