The Black Bull lies in the oldest part of the quiet market town of Haltwhistle. We are found in close proximity to Hadrians Wall, Vindolanda, Housesteads, The Roman Army Museum, Lambley Viaduct & Featherstone Castle.

Lovely hidden gem in the vicinity of the centre of Britain (sic!) Beware pub (bar and eatery) is full, which is to be expected with great places.
We recently visited Halwhisle. And were lucky to come across this gem of a pub. A quality traditional pub, great atmosphere, great food. And the staff, we're the perfect hosts. And really nice friendly character's. We can't wait to visit again. Highly recommended.
I’ve been in this little jem a couple of times and I can’t fault this place lots of old fashioned atmosphere great ales and the staff are amazing. A typical example myself the wife and friend plus our little dog Alfie couldn’t get a taxi back to herding hill campsite so the manager said no problem I’ll take you back what a gentleman.
A perfect pub. It has everything; dark, old wood interior, a fire, history, character, good selection of beers and spirits, and it's popular and lively. I could have stayed all day. The people of Haltwhistle are very lucky to have this treasure as their local.
Couldn't really fault this pub, visited a few days ago, very pleasant outdoor seating area. If I am being critical, if would be improved by having a better vegetarian selection of meals, but they were tasty and well presented, see photo. Staff were very pleasant. Well worth a visit
