About us

Enjoy a warm welcome, traditional home cooked food using locally sourced ingredients, well-kept real ales and an extensive selection of fine wines.

You can sit out by the canal in the summer months, watching the boats and the world go by or cosy up in the winter next to the roaring open fire with a glass of mulled wine or two!

We use local suppliers such as Braunston Village Meats, our very own village butcher who supplies us with great meats and homemade pork pies. We also take full advantage of a Water Buffalo Farm which is right on our door step in Napton; they provide us with fabulous mince for our tasty burgers. Our tender Black and Gold steaks are second to none, these are cut to order and delivered to us directly from Steve Betts butchers which is based just a short drive away in Banbury. In the bar you will find four hand pumps for real ales, three of which are ever changing guest ales and the fourth is for our very own ‘Admirals Ale’. This is brewed especially for us by local micro-brewery Merrimen who are based in Litchborough. At 4.5% and only £3 per pint this always proves to be a favourite by locals and visitors alike. We stock a great range of Tall Horse house wine and of course, a world selection of ‘buy by the bottle’ wines which are all supplied to us by Olivin.

Wow! What a hidden gem. Went here for food and an afternoon of drinking with my best friend. For food, we had the Camembert and battered pigs in blankets (don’t knock it until you try it- a delicious idea!). We shared the steak king carne. The fillet was the best I had ever tasted. Service was brilliant- attentive but left us to it. Super friendly! We then went to the bar for a few drinks and then had the sticky toffee a few hours later. Locals were welcoming and chatty. A great atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will be coming back soon to taste more off the menu!

Had yet another fabulous meal here. Food was top notch, it’s not the cheapest of pubs but you’re paying for good quality. Service was great; it’s a cosy and lovely spot by the canal. I recommend.

Been past a few times before and finally visited for dinner. Shared a King Carne meal with all 3 steaks cooked to perfection. A delicious Mac Cheese and potato tots to the side meant the chips were too much to handle! Best meal I've had for a long time. A friendly atmosphere with attentive staff and good service times. Would highly recommend and would love to revisit. The fajitas looked great, but it would be hard to resist another steak. It was very busy, so be sure to book!

Went here for food whilst at a wedding at the nearby events field. The website doesn’t really reflect the quality of the food which surpassed our expectations. The service was a little slow (probably because several wedding guests had booked in before heading up to the wedding) but the staff dealt with it well. The braised lamb shank was very tasty and is recommended.
