The only independent public house on Rose Street with one of the largest whisky selections in the New Town!
Opened in early 2011 the black cat aims to provide for Edinburgh’s locals and visitors alike, creating a relaxed place to meet and enjoy a hand-picked selection of Scotland's finest whiskies. We stock a variety of local beers and a select few from further afield as well as a selection of Scottish fayre served daily.

Been for a few drinks. The place was busy at the time. Live music the atmosphere was perfect for a Sunday afternoon
Always handy to have a bar of this quality opening at 11:00 am if you want a break from shopping and try a cask ale from one of the smaller Scottish breweries. There’s even a January Sale on so what are you waiting for❓
This bar was recommended to me for its whiskey flights and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Really good service and knowledge on whiskey. Tell them what you like and they will pick out 3 whiskeys for your flight. I will be back next time I’m in Edinburgh.
Nice little pub with a decent selection of drinks and a good atmosphere.
Enjoyed a few whiskeys and bar snacks. Great live music Sunday afternoon! Knowledgeable staff was very helpful in recommending a whiskey to try. Lovely, cozy spot!

This is a contradictory place indeed. Named after a supposedly historical character in the days before plumbing whose job it was to remove night soil from houses, Dirty Dick's is in fact an upmarket place

Scott’s Bar is located on Rose Street; Edinburgh’s main pedestrian shopping street and as such, is busy all year. Steeped in local history, Scott’s Bar is Rose Street’s oldest pub. Dating back to 1790 it is viewed by many as an Edinburgh institution.
