Open 365 days a year, the ground floor pub at The Portman is a favourite with the residents and businesses of Portman Village, with an extensive international Wine List, including wines and champagne by the glass. The regularly changing drinks board lists special offer wines and cocktails. We have a wide selection of continental lagers and guest ales include English beers such as Truman’s, a bitter which has been brewed in the East End of London for many decades.
Our traditional Pub Menu serves some of the best ‘Fish & Chips with Proper Mushy Peas’ in London! We also have a daily changing Specials Board.
Away from the lively downstairs bar, our elegant first floor restaurant is decorated in light vintage tones, creating a relaxed dining experience both during the day and the evening. Home to an original seasonal British dishes, prepared using free range, organic and RSPCA approved ingredients.

Office lunch. Picked because great food - and the food is great but…. seems like the chef has left or was off. Food took ages to arrive. I was told a well done steak would take “longer so we needed to be aware”. I was like what 3 minutes longer? (Yes I know I am a karen). Anyway 2 of us ordered mussels for £15 each. We literally got 6 each as though it was a starter portion. The waitress did agree it was a small portion so ordered some more and we got 6 more mussels between us. It was all so faulty towers. We were offered 10% off the bill but at £93 for a steak - was delicious friend said, pasty risotto, a questionable amount of mussels, 2 glasses of wine and a coke it seemed pricey. I guess I would think twice before going again. (I live locally).
Amazing Sunday roast. Had prawns for starter, then the beef and a crumble for pudding. Service was attentive and swift. No complaints.
I originally gave this place a 5 star review for our first visit. The service was great, the vibe was relaxed and welcoming and we loved the wood burning stove. However, my wife came back the second night and had a less than stellar experience. It was quite busy on the second night so the waitress sat my wife outside which was fine. However, nobody came to serve her for 15 minutes. When the waitress finally came outside, she helped the other table, looked at my wife and completely ignored her. My wife waited another few minutes before leaving for another place. Not sure what the issue was that night.
Just had some fries (as we were early for a restaurant reservation elsewhere) but they were quite good. Good beer selection, friendly staff.
We stumbled across this place while searching for breakfast. We had lunch instead, and was not disappointed. The food was delicious! Try one of the summer spritzers ~ yummy!
