Great pub in so many ways - friendly staff (esp Danny!), absolutely excellent food, great beer and wine offering (sadly no ales) and always a warm atmosphere. Only comment is the toilets are dreadful, perhaps feels irrelevant if you're on a big night out but really unpleasant if you're in for a roast with family. Having said that, please do go as it's easily of the best pubs in the Haggerston/ De Beauvoir area.

Came here for Sunday Roast with three other people. Food was super delicious, and the pub was cozy and lovely. Staff were very friendly as well. Good Yorkshire pudding - well cooked veg and potatoes as well! One person went fish & chips instead of roast and was still very pleased. Book a table for sure (we did), as they were quite busy and had to turn away folks without a reservation at peak lunching time.

A nice cosy pub tucked around the corner from Haggerston Station, which makes it a nice location that's close to transport but away from the busy highstreet and traffic. The staff super friendly and genuinely nice which is hard to find in places that offer hospitality and if it's not to busy you can enjoy a nice conversation with them as well. The food was great, the presentation was on point and tasted great. I had the salt and pepper squid which was well complemented by the aioli sauce, the battered haddock and chips was a beautiful golden brown and crispy (although a touch too salty because of the rock salt sprinkled on top but looked gorgeous), and finally the Eton mess was a perfect balance of sweetness from the meringue, fresh strawberries, and a nice crunch from the pistachios all mixed with the right amount of cream. I would highly recommend this place for the food, the hospitality and atmosphere.

I don't really class myself as one of those "London hipsters" and there's no need to explain, we all know who they are but this is definitely a pub for them. Loud annoying rubbish music within the bar, so difficult to hold a conversation - just turn it down a bit. Pints around £7-9 mark, not surprising for London really. We ordered food, the calamari starter is extremely thin! But quite dense, I did enjoy but definitely not worth the amount it cost for what it is. I decided to go for the chicken keiv (which it isn't) it's breaded chicken and drenched in oil, I had to use about 8 tissues (photo) to get the oil I drained from it off my plate. I did wonder if it was the "yummy" juicy bit that flows at first when I cut through the keiv, but didn't have to cut into it... Just a little pressure on the outside with the side of my knife and the oil shot out! Literally. And, it tasted like oil. On top of that the broccoli and the potatoes were ice cold!! Literally, ice cold. Took back and complained. The exact same food came back and had been rapidly reheated. The wife said her chicken burger was okay. The only hot thing that came out where the triple cooked chips but were still slightly underdone in the middle of thicker chips. Wouldn't go back unless I had no other choice. The staff behind the bar were friendly, one young lady in particular, hats off to you! A little bit of charm while you're pouring a pint is a nice touch, so thank you for your customer service. 5* to her, rating 3* for service because of kitchen staff. Annoyingly, a little pot of ketchup and mayo was brought out. I know this is apparently a thing, but not everyone wants mayonnaise with their chips!! Some of us find it revolting! So maybe ask and not assume? We had to ask for more ketchup and other condiments because they didn't just provide them.

fast becoming one my favourite pubs, i've got a lot of time for the duke of york. aside from just a nice vibe for beers, good outside and inside seating, they've also got some lovely nibbles. this time we went for truffle parmesan fries and mac and cheese croquettes. croquettes are next level.
