About us

Gullivers has had many different guises over the years. It was originally a Wilson’s house called The Albert Hotel, then The Grenadier before J.W. Lees brewery bought the pub in the 1970s. They renamed it Gullivers and it has existed in its current form to this day.

But there’s much more to Gullivers than just the busy bar; it also houses two distinct yet complementary live music and performance spaces; the upstairs Ballroom – a 110 capacity gig venue with a raised stage and the downstairs Lounge – an intimate, 40 capacity space ideal for acoustic or low-key performances.

As well as working with established and longstanding promoters from Manchester and beyond, Gullivers prides itself on being a welcoming, supportive space and a creative hub for the city’s grassroots artistic communities; with many now successful bands, artists, performers and promoters cutting their teeth within its walls.

Great place to watch a gig. Sound system was awesome. Unfortunately, the toilets were horrible. Second visit to this pub. It was extremely busy. I would watch a gig here again, but the toilets definitely need a good clean

Some blokes at the table behind me started an argument with two women by the bar. Then upstairs during a gig a group of lads who seemed to have been let in for free were talking really loudly. Seems the staff might need to keep an eye on the behaviour of the punters.

Beautiful JW Lees pub, and wonderfully kept cask ale as you would expect.

It can be good as a live music venue although at times people talking are louder than the performer — as a pub, I see no appeal to it whatsoever to be honest — but back to it being a music venue, it’s not usually well organised but still better than my experiences at Gorilla

The bands play upstairs over the pub (steep stairs to get there). Very good sound and atmosphere in an intimate setting. Drinks from the bar downstairs.
