Update December 2023: Gavin's Mill Cafe continues to be excellent, and definitely a hidden gem (per their 2023 award).Always a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. With excellent coffee, cakes and lunch options, this is a must visit when in the area! Original post: A lovely wee café situated in a beautiful spot in Milngavie. The food and coffee are great, with friendly staff and quick service. Either eating in, or taking away, I have never been disappointed. Indoor and outdoor seating, with seating outdoors at the front (currently undergoing renovations) and back overlooking the burn which is particularly idyllic and relaxing. Definitely would recommend.

Brilliant. Well done! Perfect place to start the West Highland Way. Artisan independent professionals running this place, knocking out great. unpretentious, utterly delicious food. They welcomed our dog too. These sort of outlets are the standard-bearers for cafe culture in Scotland.
Great spot to pick up unusual food items and the cafe serves great coffee and cakes. On a sunny day you can sit by the river in the mill courtyard.
Great place to stop for an excellent coffee and a wide selection of tasty bakes. Good shop above with wide range of foods from books to toiletries, jewellery and food. Bring your own container dry goods too. A good place to shop for that small, unusual Xmas gift. I always pop in when I am in Milngavie.
