We had a lovely meal on Monday night. There were 20 of us, The food was delicious and there was plenty of it, good service , and a lovely Christmas atmosphere. Thank you, we'll definitely be back.

This will sound awful but it’s honest. Sunday lunch … food was hot, beef was nice but vegetables were rock hard, cauliflower cheese tasteless Deserts were banoffee pie, shortbread crust was soft & stale, fruit pavlova was very tasty but it was just shoved onto the plate Needs more professional staff. It’s gone/going down hill very fast & such a shame I said it was honest, it is Please run this potentially superb pub with decent food & staff.

Long time favourites of the Friars Head eatery and experienced it change hands a number of times. Took dad today for his birthday lunch. Although a limited lunch menu I believe there’s sufficient choice and the presentation and quality was delicious. I had the Eaton mess for desert which was lovely. The bar-man seemed a bit uninterested, but the restaurant manager was on the ball. We did wait quite a time even though the place was very quiet but it was worth it. We had three drinks, three mains and two deserts from the luncheon menu and the tab was £54. That is a ridiculously cheap lunch in my book! Will definitely be returning.

This is genuinely a lovely bar/restaurant however, the service was all over the place. Apparently it had a new management team and didn't seem to be working very well. There was a male staff member crying in the bar, who then (I believe) 'left' . We overheard 2 separate tables that had waited for food for over 40 minutes, be told the chicken they ordered was no longer available. All in all, it was poor, we ended up cancelling our table that we had booked. Its a shame as we visited a number of years ago and it really is a lovely place. This is NO reflection on Akebar Park its self, Purley just the bar/restaurant

The veneer of a gourmet restaurant with cheap, low quality food. Arriving slightly later than expected, we were sat at a dirty table. It was wiped down quickly, but my jumper also got a spray of cleaning liquid. The waitresses were nice enough. However we did have to ask for cutlery on two different occasions. Both our starter and main were served before we got the cutlery to go with it. The Pepsi Max I ordered was significantly watered down. From a birds eye view, looking directly down through the full glass you could see the table clearly through the Pepsi. I ordered the parfait to start. The parfait was nice enough, but there was nowhere near enough toast for the amount of parfait. Unfortunately, there were no pizza bases left so I ordered a lamb shank. Lamb shanks are supposed to be tender, this one was not. The veg was also sad and dried out (zoom in on the picture attached, it is very sad looking veg!). A very disappointing meal when you consider the price tag that came with it! The chicken my partner ordered was rubbery. The chips were very nice. For what looks like a nice restaurant, the atmosphere did not match the appearance of a nice restaurant. The door was wide open and it was cold, dogs were barking and at one point a child scootered through the restaurant. We decided not to discuss this with the waitress on the night, as she received a complaint from a table nearby. We thought it was unfair for her to take more complaints for things that mostly weren't her fault.
