About us

"Absolute Riverside Perfection"

Just a stone’s throw from St Ives and 10 miles from Cambridge, the lovingly restored Pike & Eel stands in 17 acres of grounds on the River Great Ouse in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Fens. Step inside this 18thcentury inn and you will find the perfect blend of old and new.

The 200-year-old oak bar complete with the original copper top bids a warm welcome, and there are plentiful nooks with comfortable sofas and a snug with a roaring fire. The bar can serve up to 100 people seated at tables.

Leading on from the bar is the restaurant which blends contemporary inspiration with traditional craftsmanship. Light and airy with full-length windows, it has a panoramic view over the river and opens directly onto its own wrap-around terrace – perfect for the summer months.

Lovely place! It has a room with lots of toys and games which is a winner for me. I did not like coffee and tea in paper cup for this price. But I haven't complained so still 5 stars.

Went to view the venue for a wedding. Had seen it in the photos but the pictures didn't do it justice. It is a really beautiful place. The marquee we saw was fully decorated at the time and looked magical. Big enough for around 300 to 350 people. They have installed a sound system and the lighting was also good. The gardens surrounding were also well kept and had a small island where a wedding could also take place weather permitting. The two gentlemen who showed us around were lovely, friendly and knew the business. An excellent place.

I nipped in as we were passing for a family sunday roast. Crystal greeted us and sat us at a table in the bar. She was amazing throughout the service. The food was lovely too. Thank you crystal for a lovely experience. Keep doing a good job!

I very much enjoyed the location that was suggested by my well travelled brother-in-law. However, the whole experience seemed like a work in progress. The facilities reminded me of a guest house environment when, with a little bit of forethought the whole site could be of the finest quality. The bar area, whilst very spacious was dark and drab and the restaurant lacked atmosphere, a bit like Hi-de-Hi holiday camp. The rooms were adequate, but no more and the price charged should have included breakfast. Breakfast by the way was first class. The grounds were beautiful, but they would be like paradise if there was a gardener/handyman to keep on top of little problems like the flower boxes devoid of flowers and the weeds on the patio near the reception and the large conference venue. I really believe that with a little bit more imagination, this place would be a top top attraction. Such a beautiful location.

What a marvellous location and a nostalgic trip since my last visit 40 years ago. Room was clean and the river view completed it. Sad to say the restaurant service was very poor indeed, and considering there were less than 20 people dining, the wait time was unacceptable. When the food did arrive the quality didn't meet expectations. The breakfast however was fine although having to wait 20 minutes for it to arrive when there were under 10 residents in the restaurant surprised us. Classic case of understaffing. Although we may visit again it will only be to stay. Great hotel, poor restaurant service, fabulous location. Employ a few more staff and perhaps the restaurant will be at full capacity which frankly one would expect for a summer weekend.
