We went to the boot on a Thursday in December, which is always going to be busy. However, the service was very slow. We waited around an hour between our starter and main course, and were starving by the time it arrived. The cheese soufflé was very nice and the chicken was good, but the portion size was a little reserved. The atmosphere is nice but I probably wouldn't recommend for the price.

Incredibly disappointing. Having been here a few years ago and raved about the pistachio soufflé ever since, our visit today was pretty terrible. Booked online but then showed up and there was no reservation. The hostess was not apologetic or really accommodating, but not rude about it either. Not a big deal, but not exactly great. Sat in the garden and ordered from the bar menu as that was the only option. Ordered at the bar and it took 15 mins to get the order in. There was no queue, the person just kept getting it wrong. Two burgers with bacon and cheese, two beers and a kids meal. Not very complex. We were warned that the burgers were cooked medium-rare, fine for me. The burgers arrived and were burned on the outside, cooked through entirely and incredibly dry. Actually difficult to eat the whole thing given how dry it was. The bacon, which cost £2, was a small, single slice of streaky bacon, also burned. That’s the cost of an entire pack of bacon. Great profit margin item for the pub I guess. One of the most disappointing pub burgers I’ve ever had, and surprising from a place with Raymond Blanc’s name attached. The kid’s meal pasta looked pretty anaemic, and we had to ask for the vegetables it comes with as they were missing. Had to ask twice for the ice cream with the kid’s meal, and then it finally showed up. All this cost just shy of £70. On this showing, I won’t be returning, unless it’s just for the pistachio soufflé, assuming that is still up to par.

First time I've visited here since a big make over a few years ago now. Situated on the High Street of picturesque Cambridge village Histon I would firmly say this is worth a visit. Cambridge has a thriving food scene and I'd add this to the mix as well. With a warm friendly welcome we were seated in a stone archway at the back of the restaurant looking out onto a bright airy oak beamed dining area splashes of green throughout- loved it. We hadn't booked and missed the Sunday lunch menu but didn't leave disappointed. Slow cooked short rib beef was sublime and the wife was equally impressed with the lamb roulade. Soufflé for dessert was melt in the mouth perfection. The service team we busy buzzing around recovering from the earlier lunch and preparing for the next round of punters - there was a steady stream - adding a great atmosphere to a wonderful setting. A must visit if your in Histon and well worth the short journey out of Cambridge. Thanks for the fabulous food and experience we will be back.
