The pub was established between 1844 and 1847 in a building originally used as a farm. When it became a pub, the original landlord was a Mr Charles Elliot. Around Kingsclere there is terrific walking and miles of cycle tracks. You can also follow the Kingsclere Millennium Trail, which reveals the village's history and secrets on a scenic walk around the area.

Our server Becca was lovely and it's a nice pub. Partners pie was good but the veg to both of us had spoiled. A little slimy and had a sharp taste to it. Becca happily got a replacement and these were perfect and visually fresh. I had the fishcakes and was a little disappointed. Two fishcakes, four baby potatoes, 3 broccoli stems and a small sauce. We had a chuckle when I said that looks a little sad. Fishcakes very dry and just crumbled. Becca did say I could get a replacement but the meal had already been partially had. We were offered coffee and dessert on the house and just had the hot drinks. Been here before and by and large they a nice pub so perhaps a bad day. Will visit again as Becca was great and willing to help which is all you can ask for.
This is a great Pub very old traditional country pub the food is excellent with a great selection of beers the staff are extremely friendly and helpful the service is very quick had dinner on a Saturday afternoon with family absolutely loved it I will definitely be visiting there again cheers Vince
Birthday celebration with a couple of friends. We were served by Karl and Jess. Lovely people! The food was amazing. It’s definitely a must if you are choosing somewhere to eat.
What a Find! I've driven past this place dozens of times and always been headed somewhere else. By pure chance we stopped here tonight at the start of our 5 hour journey back home. Whilst I'm gutted I've driven past so many times and ended up eating somewhere nowhere near as good as this place, I'm glad I've now found it. 100% without doubt I'll be stopping here next time I'm back down here. The menu is varied and original, the food is delicious, to a point where I again felt sad for all the times I've driven past and instead called at some other place which was dramatically inferior! The staff are very friendly and attentive and the place itself is a delightful building, clean, bright and stylish, the bar is well stocked with a wide variety of drinks and I really wish them well for the future. Greatest compliments to chef, staff and management for a first class service. 👌 I drive a motorhome, so was pleased to see the carpark is quite large, so I could easily park in a corner across a couple of spaces without upsetting anyone. Oh, and to make it even more perfect, they even have a section that is dog friendly so the smallest member of our family wasn't left out either! Top marks for all. See you again soon. 😎👍
We had the most wonderful meal on Christmas Eve, the pub itself is beautiful inside, greeted by the friendly staff including Lauren the manager. We had oven-baked mushrooms and prawn cocktail to start, and then Hunters Chicken and a pie for main. The portions were great, food was excellent quality and overall we had a lovely time. Brought our dog with us too which they sorted a bowl of water for her. Can’t wait to return!
