Newcastle entrepreneur lobbies Number 10 to promote pubs and North East businesses

A Newcastle entrepreneur behind useyourlocal.com, the UK's leading website for pubs, yesterday met policy makers at Number 10 Downing Street to speak up for pubs and North East businesses.

Stuart Mills, a pub expert who recently moved into new premises in i6 Charlotte Square, attended along with other North East business owners including Anna Gibson, of Gateshead based Micro-Scooter and Charlie Hoult, who runs Hoult's Yard and OpenCast software in Byker.  Organised by Enterprise Nation and hosted by Daniel Korski, deputy head of policy to the Prime Minister, the meeting was intended to raise awareness of North East businesses success stories and inform the government what needs to be done to help the region thrive.

Stuart commented, "My main point was about sorting out transport.  This is key to the region's success and the current state and cost of train travel is prohibitive to trade with the capital - especially for small businesses.  Journey times are no quicker than when I started my business in 2009 and the cost of an early morning train to London is excessive, especially for a small business where cashflow is vital."

Despite requests Stuart found the Prime Minister wasn't available for #puboclock but he nevertheless led a trip of attendees to The Red Lion, the closest pub to Downing Street.
