POOLE QUAYS FRESH FISH & SEAFOOD BAR

Take a stroll along Poole Quay and discover its oldest watering hole… The Poole Arms (circa 1635) distinguished by its Green Tilled frontage.

THE POOLE ARMS,a specialist seafood bar was run by landlord Bob Kerr and his wife Maureen for the last thirteen years, but have now handed over the day to day running to there very capable daughter Michelle and her husband Carl Smith and will have complete there first year by April! time flies.

Eat overlooking the Quay and in summer tables are set outside. Bob and Maureen have a clearly defined view of how fish should be eaten and present beautifully simple dishes with new potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables , either pan fried, poached, grilled or oven baked without a chip in sight.

The house menu nods emphatically towards the nearby water, with what one visitor describes as “excellent seafood at reasonable prices. The only Pub in the town not offering the usual fish-and-chip-in batter fare”. With home-made house specialities such as Fish Soup,Fish Pie,smoked haddock pot and Seafood Casserole.

Other favourites at the Poole Arms include King Prawns in garlic, moulles marinier, herring roes on toast, pints of shell-on prawns, squid, oysters, cod, hake, plaice fillets and fresh dressed crab salad with minted new potatoes.

The Poole Arms also has a board with the catch of the day and is influenced by the seasons, utilising local produce as much as possible. The board changes daily and you will see such offerings as Brill, Bream, Skate Wing, Whole Plaice, Red Gurnard, Dab, Torbay Sole, Sea Bass and Sprats.Fresh local landed lobsters can be ordered for for next day delivery.

Today was our second visit to this very cosy, traditional looking pub. Both occasions we had the most amazing fish meals. Today we had oysters, chowder, scallops and red gurnard - all cooked to perfection. Staff are very friendly and helpful when choosing food. Can't wait to return again!

Only here for one night, but would thoroughly recommend this pub/restaurant. Food produced by Michelle tonight was delicious. The photo shows my half eaten fish casserole - so tasty, fresh and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. All in all 100% tasty, wholesome and well priced👍👍👍

Having been invited by a local Poole fisherman to introduce us to fresh seafood, we couldn't have been more impressed and well fed. The Poole Arms is Oldest pub on the quay and has a fantastic atmosphere and a great selection of fresh seafood. We're looking forward to returning soon for some more of our new favourite, Moules Mariniere 👍

seafood was fresh and delicious, highly recommend the mussels and the bread was freshly baked and soft. we got the salt and pepper squid however this was not well seasoned and the membrane of the squid was not cut off making it quite chewy. interior is a bit dated however staff were lovely and attentive.

Food & drink

We specialise Fresh Fish and Seafood at the Poole Arms, but I am sorry to say to all you fish and chip lovers - you won't get any here, you see we don't do chips and neither do we batter fish, not even beer batter - good beer should be for drinking not for hiding fish in.
There is two benefits here, you will see and taste nice fresh fish without the batter and you will have the choice of having it cooked either pan fried, grilled, poached or oven baked and of course you can keep the Beer for the drinking and washing it down.
