  • Guild of Foresters

36-40 Portobello High Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, EH15 1DA
    Guild of Foresters

Nicely re-done from the old Foresters! Clio and the rest of the staff are great. Food (I haven't had any yet) looked appealing - especially the fish. Look in Flickr and/or Facebook if you 'search' my name.

    — Have visited here many times since it reopened. Every meal myself and friends have had have been great (a few inconsistances but liveable) though slightly over priced for the area I still think. But disappointed in the service now a days. Staff are getting less attentive in the customers needs, not just from my own visits but also seeing other customers around. The staff are pleasant enough (most of the time) but seem very inexperienced now a days. It has changed since it opened and not for the better which is a shame. Also we never seem to see a manager about just lots of young females doing the running around and young men solely behind the bar. It would be nice to see them as part of the team who ever they are. The cleanliness of the building also seems to be slipping, was always spotless in the first few months don't know if they have changed their cleaner. Must admit I do like the new menu that is on offer, the lighter options of salads are a bonus. My friends and I shall be back but wouldn't like it to slip any further since it is a lovely place.

    04/04/2014 Another good pub wasted.

    — Yet another brick walled, craft ale, over-priced 'gastro-pub' we could do without. The old FA was a lovely old traditional pub with great atmosphere and very good beer. Problem was that there was a LOT of wasted space in the unused lounge bar and rarely used games room. Only 'good' thing to say about this new abortion is that all the space is now used! Will the Guild last as long as the Arms did? Not a chance!

    — Staff were very attentive and experienced none of the problems that other reviewers stated. Food was excellent and all five of us enjoyed our meals. Great selection of drinks compared to some places. Had lunch in the nearby Espy the previous week but foresters guild had a much better atmosphere. Will definitely return :)
