About us

We’ve taken great care to retain the charm of this historic pub with stone flagged floors, low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating. In the winter months, you can relax by one of our roaring open fires and in the summer enjoy the view from one of the most spectacular beer gardens in Northumberland.

The Jolly Fisherman was established by Charles Archbold in 1847. Over the past 165 years the building has grown in both size and reputation and is popular with locals, coastal ramblers and day-trippers alike.

Following a full refurbishment in 2012 new publican David Whitehead and his team are proud to continue and enhance the rich culinary heritage of one of Northumberland’s most iconic destinations.

The picturesque Northumberland fishing harbour of Craster stands a mile and a half from the imposing ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.

Here at the Jolly, we’d recommend trying a ‘Craster kipper’ at the historic Robson & Sons smoke house; eating a slice of home made cake at The Shoreline Café, browsing the art at The Mick Oxley Gallery and pitching your tent at the nearby Dunstan Hill campsite.

Wow wow wow! Located overlooking the North Sea, this is one place you don’t want to miss! The food was gorgeous and a delight to our tastebuds. Everything we had was a 20/10 The price is phenomenally great for food that delicious too! Highly highly recommend to anyone going! However please note that you may have to wait to get a seat as they are rightfully super busy at all times of the day.

In the pretty little village of Craster. You generally need to book in advance although they do hold a couple of tables for walk-ins. Choice of seafood is excellent and suits all budgets. I had a special of prawn and crayfish cocktail which had loads of meat for under a tenner and was very tasty. Followed it up with their famous crab sandwich which didn't disappoint, served with a lovely slaw and crisps. Views over the sea and Dunstanburgh Castle from your table (in the restaurant, not bar) make eating here a great experience

A welcome late lunch after a 7 mile loop walk starting from Craster car park over to Dunstanburgh Castle . Superb views from the restaurant but worth booking in advance as it gets very busy. Cosy bar area where you could easily spend a few hours in the winter . Menu was superb especially the Craster kipper pate. Evening menu would be superb for a romantic or family meal.

Nice little pub food enjoyable not many staff working at the bar taking orders. A little expensive. Lovely views from the beer garden

A honey-pot drawing in tourists/walkers/cyclists. We were there on a busy Bank Holiday Sunday. Outside the main pub there is a fish & chip trailer. Pre-booked customers would be able to access the restaurant & bar. There is limited seating at the front, but lots more at the back with sea views. Dogs are welcome in the beer garden & the bar only. The fish & chips from the van were £13.50 but ENORMOUS! Really, one portion would easily be shared between 2 adults with a healthy appetite.
