About us

The Hind Hotel, as it was then know, was erected in the 1870’s across the road from the railway station to cater for the increase in railway passengers. It is situated within, what is now known as, Leicester’s Highfields Conservation Area. In the 1960’s the Hind was a popular haunt for students at Leicester University. It was one of their first venues on periodic three-legged pub crawls and the tavern they attempted to drink dry each rag week. At around that time, and now long gone, a dive bar existed in the cellar illuminated only by candles stuck in wine bottles. Today the pub consists of an expansive open plan U-shaped room with a central bar. An unpretentious ambience is enhanced by uncovered floorboards and real open fireplaces. Out the back are a part tarmacadam and part timber decked yard furnished with picnic tables and three alcoves, set in the former stables block, equipped with tables and chairs.

We entered and no one greeted us. We had made a reservation before hand but the waitress and staff did not explain to us as to where our table was. After finding our own table, we decided on our dishes (Mostly African based) and had ordered them. It took a long time for the order to come and it came one by one and not as a group, so some of us were eating while others were not. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish had no seasoning while the chips were loaded with salt. It also came with peas that did not taste good at all. The Tarter sauce was incredibly sour and I did not finish it. The ketchup was good. Overall, it's an okay place to go but I don't think I will be back again to order food.

My partner and I came here on a Friday morning for breakfast before catching the coach back to Taunton. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered a full English breakfast. It was delicious! I was very impressed. My partner enjoyed her poached egg on toast. I noticed an Afro Caribbean menu. I didn't know what anything on the menu was, but one of the staff (Angie) explained what everything was. My partner and I are planning on coming up to Leicester again in March next year, so will definitely be coming back to try out this menu.

One of the worst pints I've had for a very long time. The beer tasted off, the lines not looked after and the staff didn't really know what they were doing. Avoid

What a lovely pub in a prime location! Straight from arrival to leaving the staff were friendly and welcoming and the vibe inside was lively despite having hardly anyone else in. There’s a great range of drinks and considering where it is the prices are good. It’s lovely to find a venue with a pool table, so this is a good option for a group of friends and there’s plenty of seating along with TV screens. For a more party vibe it’s highly recommended and I’ll certainly be returning!

The African dishes are most definitely valid, became a regular customer after my first time eating here. Great reasonable prices and customer service is up to standard by all staff, would definitely recommend this restaurant/pub.
