About us

The Gunton Arms is situated in the one thousand acre deer park which surrounds Gunton Hall near Cromer in Norfolk. The park was created in the early 18th Century by the Harbord family and was comparable in scale to the great estates to the west, Holkham and Houghton.

Art dealer Ivor Braka bought the Gunton Arms in 2009 and started a major restoration. Robert Kime helped design the bedrooms and interior, Martin Brudnizki the bar and restaurant. Stuart Tattersall and Simone Baker (manager and front of house) both formerly worked at Mark Hix’s restaurants in London: Selfridges, Brown’s Hotel, and Hix Oyster and Chop. They bring with them the Hix ethos of using local, seasonal produce and a style of cooking which is vigorous and ingredient led. The Gunton Arms has its own venison; seafood, mussels and Cromer crab are caught by local fishermen.

Stayed on the 4th Jan to welcome in the New Year and it was packed which made the atmosphere fantastic. There was staff aplenty who couldn't be more friendly and accommodating. The food was superbly cooked and presented. The artwork thought provoking .We couldn't have asked for more. A very positive start to 2024.

One of the most atmospheric pubs I've ever been to. Beautiful inside, and set in a delightful deer park. The staff were highly courteous and professional; our every need was catered for. We were a party of 7. All our meals were delicious, piping hot and served on time. Simply amazing.

Wow! What a wonderful venue and meal. The restaurant and bar are atmospheric with open fires throughout, one of which is busy cooking meat and goose fat potatoes. Best steak I've had in a very long time, potatoes and greens delicious. Sticky toffee pudding light but rich. Wine excellent. Great staff and very accommodating for my family. Deer visible through the window roaming around the open landscape. An absolute dream of an afternoon! Very high quality food and service which very much justified the cost.

Fabulous lunch and made to feel very special ad 3 birthdays!@ The food was exceptionally good and the service fantastic. Lovely little nuances like linen napkins, sparkling glasses and knowledgeable staff. The whole experience was fantastic and will be difficult to beat

This is what I'd call a very special place. It's everything, the service, the atmosphere, the vibe! Obviously the food was exceptional as was the wine, but it was everything combined that made this the most amazing night away. Truly special. The room 'Martin' was lovely, very spacious, views of the deer park to die for, and a wonderful roll top bath. I don't think I've been more comfortable in bed, so so good!!
