As renowned for its ghost stories as it is for food the Golden Lion has its own spectral guest, Old Jeffrey. Jeffrey now lives quite contentedly in bedroom 2 upstairs and though still inclined to mischief, is perfectly harmless. Indeed, he has been known to have a sneaky drink on occasion, moving bottles from behind the bar and leaving glasses and chairs upturned.
Inside the pub, the eclectic mix of old and new bring together a comforting homely appeal that is matched by the adventurous menu. The wine list boasts a generous selection of well known varietals with some little known treasures to tell your friends about.
Wonderful Christmas Meal, the staff where very helpful, friendly and service was prompt for a busy evening. Both the meal and drinks were quickly served to the table and very tasty. For £23 2 courses were large portions and well worth the money. They have different areas to cater for all kinds of gatherings. Families, children, couple, friends etc. Car park is large and a bus stop in very near by servicing Chester and Wrexham buses.
Had my daughters christening after party here in the teepee, food was great, staff were helpful, all in all was a brilliant day.
Good menu, excellent service and lovely busy dining pub. Some portion sizes are a little small for the price but overall very good
I was lucky enough to be taken here for a working lunch and I was mightily impressed. It’s been around a while you know! This was the first place I tried the non alcoholic gin - they had two and it was the Tanqueray I tried. I really enjoyed the food, my colleague had the same as me and we shared the whipped feta style cheese with tomato. We had to get back to work but I would have loved to have enjoyed that place some more. It was extensive and also quite busy
Superb interior, it feels like "old, good England" inside. Good food and attentive service. We enjoyed our business lunch a lot. Spacious parking place, "the only one between Chester and Wrexham" (acc. the owner) hence often misused by non-customers.
