About us

A traditional pub in the heart of Cardiff city centre.

Our name comes from our close association with the 41st Regiment of Wales and we’re a great old pub that has classic décor, and are famed for our 'pie only' menu.

BEERS: We're known for our wonderfully kept real ales that include, Brains Dark, Brains Bitter, SA (straight from the cask on the back bar), and have a guest ale on at all times. We also have plenty of soft drinks, bottled beers and spirits, including Welsh spirits from the Penderyn distillery.

MENU: We are the only pub in Cardiff to have a "PIE ONLY" menu. They are all freshly cooked on site and are delicious. On the set menu we have - Steak & Ale, Pork & Cider, Chicken, Pea & Bacon, Cheesy Leek, Lamb & Rosemary... and of course The Best British Pie 2010 Award Winning - Wye Valley Pie.. Check out our "SPECIALS" board for other fantastic home-made pies!

A visit to Cardiff really isn’t complete without a pint of beer in one of our leather wing-backed armchairs and a chat with our friendly and professional tattoo clad bar staff. Once you come and see us you will never forget us.

We’re located just opposite Cardiff Castle so you won’t have to search too hard to find us either.

A lovely, old fashioned style pub, with a good selection of lagers, beers and ciders. Didn't have food there, so cannot comment. The only negative was the young man serving, he ignored us and served others who were there after us. Thank goodness for the young lady who then attended to us. Only stayed for one round, and moved on.

Lovely classic pub at the top of the High Street a stones throw from Cardiff Castle. Their menu is small with typical pub fare, only crisps for us on this visit but will definitely be back to sample their fish and chips. The drinks were good, the seating was cozy and the staff were friendly. We will definitely return

Very delicious traditional food! We had the vegetarian breakfast which includes the glamorgan sausages, Welsh rarebit and the pudding. I really recommend this place

A decent pub near to the castle with a nice ornate Victorian style interior. The drinks were pretty cheap too (they seemed to have a happy hour on 4-7 I think). The staff were quite friendly too and they had a good array of outdoor seating available. Only criticism was the door on the gents cuboid didn’t lock, although that could have just been me! A decent pub for the location.

Can't fault this honest pub for Welsh grub and relaxed pub atmosphere. Allows dogs and provided water. We had the welsh cawl which was great on a cold day, and I had the Welsh rarebit. Could have done with little more seasoning so the chutney was a nice accompaniment. Recommended.
