About us

Built in 1732, The George Inn is full of character, cosy and welcoming. We have a traditional bar with paneled walls and the original fire place with a log burning stove; walls and shelves display art and ornaments from around the world.

The village of Thoralby is in beautiful Bishopdale, an ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park and close to Aysgarth Falls.

The bar sells a range of hand pulled real ales which are Cask Marque Accredited and sourced from many local breweries.

Our home cooked meals are prepared to order, using locally sourced ingredients where ever possible. Food is served every day except Monday (open Bank Holidays) and Tuesday lunch time.

There is a regular printed menu, a specials board and a Sunday lunch menu.

The food at The George Inn Thoralby is traditional with a few unusual choices and a good vegetarian selection is always on offer.

We are 4 stars Gold Award Guest Accommodation.

well I may be at odds with the other reviews here, but the landlord was far from friendly, dogs not made welcome, booked a table for 6.30 got in at 6.25, had not even sat down, and was told to order, as he had another table booked for 7.00, our friends had not even arrived yet!! we were told he had another dog coming in, which was a residents dog so ours would have to leave if they did not get on? he just seemed very abrupt and not welcoming at all, we decided not to stay, and found a very cosy friendly pub in the next village, he may have had a bad day, and i never write reviews, but I have to say, stay away and try the fox & Hounds at west Burton, for a smiley face and a welcoming landlady, this guy has a serious problem.

Had a lovely meal here. The homemade steak, kidney and mushroom pie was absolutely gorgeous. Friendly welcome from the landlord, serving excellent local real ales in a lovely, quaint, proper Dales pub. Well worth a visit.

Very friendly owner, with 2 lovely dogs and a cat! Pubs with pets are homely and inviting. The prices are very reasonable. The pub itself is very quaint, with a lovely fire and friendly faces. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

It's a small pub (a bar and small dining area) set in an extremely quiet village. The 2 guest rooms are in an external annex to the front. Ours was small but clean. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, however the proprietor had gone to great lengths to make it comfort able... Little touches like chocolates, grapes, bath robes, slippers, DVDs, a decanter of sherry etc. We only stayed one night, but I was amazed to find I was thirsty on the first afternoon, after returning from a walk, as the pub was shut! Opening hours seem to be limited to a couple of hours around midday, and a few in the evening. For a pub with limited opening hours, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ale - fresh tasting and the perfect temperature. Food was good and reasonably priced - general pub fayre but quite well done. Service felt slightly rushed, with virtually no gap between starter & main. We didn't even look at the dessert menu as we were stuffed! Location is good as a base for walking, but the village is VERY quiet, and as the pub seems to have selective opening times, there's little to do if not out & about.

Returned for a second visit which was as good as the first. Breakfast excellent with a wide variety of choice. Dinner also good. Both the rooms and the inn are spotless. The George Inn is in a good position in the Dales for touring. Both Charles and Becci made us feel very welcome so much so that we have booked a return in October.
