One of the Bridgwater Canal’s most impressive features was the Barton Aqueduct, built to carry the waterway over the River Irwell. When self-taught engineer James Brindley dreamt up the idea, it was met with widespread scepticism and nicknamed the ‘Castle

Nice clean pub and great for using chill factore/ playfactore. We went Sunday morning but they didn't have much stock of anything for breakfasts. By the time we could order something that was in stock they would no longer do breakfasts and wasn't helpful so had to spend more on a brunch with chips didnt want. Got a brunch instead and had bacon missing off 2/3 plates but the food we did recieve was hot and tasty. Think we would stick to going for normal menu food than risk breakfasts again.
Not a cheap day out. But with JDW, you already know what you will be getting. I had 12 pieces of chips with my meal. Having a real fire brought character to the pub.
Visited here with 4 adults for breakfast prior to them flying abroad. 4 of the party really enjoyed the items on the breakfast menu, & the unlimited tea/coffee offer once you paid for the first one. However, criticisms were that the food & drinks - all coffees - were warm, rather than hot, & that the portions were very small, & over cooked. Other than that, the place & its loos was very clean, free ample parking & nice, quiet atmosphere.
I prefer to drive or walk over to this branch than eat/drink in the Mardi Gras within the Trafford Centre. This branch never feels overcrowded even near Christmas or on sunny summer weekends.
This was a fantastic pub to visit, having a glorious design persisting on the walls, ceiling and counter! The lights and the silver design at the counter are beautiful too, where a marvellous dark layout is utilized. I sat at a comfortable seat next to artwork frames, enjoying a refreshing drink after quick service and the area was clean!
