About us

Welcome to The Miners Standard, Winster

Lindsay and Wez would like to offer a warm and friendly welcome to their hostelry in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District.

The Inn, believed to have been built circa 1653 was originally a farm house, but as the local lead mines started to progress down the valley following the seams of lead, Inn’s and ale houses started to spring up to quench the thirst of the miners. It is said that at one time there were thirty seven places you could buy beer in the village of Winster, with The Miners Standard probably one of the first.

Over 350 years later we are still quenching the thirst of those who stop by. We are family friendly and pride ourselves in offering a wonderful charm and appeal of a traditional and local country pub. Our kitchen serves a great choice of home-made food, including specials and Sunday lunch, whilst we also cater for any dietary needs. As a free house we also hold a great variety of lagers, cask ales, spirits, gins and whiskeys.

This is by far my favourite pub in Derbyshire. Authentic pub atmosphere, log fires, good beer and the best Sunday lunch ever. Good quality meat and delicious Yorkshire puds. They were happy to accommodate my no onion/leek allergy. We’ll be back! 5 stars for you (oh and very friendly staff too)

We went for my wife’s birthday. The meal was amazing the portion size generous and the staff were friendly. The owners were so pleasant and made us very welcome. The atmosphere was lovely just what you would expect from a country pub! Would definitely recommend and I’m sure will probably end up camping there in the summer. 👍

We stayed in a lovely cottage in Winster, and decided to try out the local. The service was spot on and the food was really nice. My teenage son loves a massive burger and he wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend the buffalo burger, fish was tasty too.

Camped here in October for two nights. Tent area is slipped (damn you Peak District), and was soft underfoot due to recent heavy rainfall. Bar food and drinks were excellent, along with two fires to warm up frozen campers. We managed to park our motorbikes inside the locked gate on a gravel area (grass too soft for this late in the year). Great place to base your visit to the Peaks. Recommended.

The food was fine, beef was tasty and tender, pastry nice and crumbly, the double cooked chips were good , plentiful and hot, the peas were from frozen. The beer was excellent, from a local brewery. The pub was pretty empty yo begon with, but it soon filled up and the atmosphere came to life. I think I might have gone on a bad day; lots of other reviews say how friendly and warm the staff are, that wasn't my experience, but we all have off days don't we.
