As usual the overall experience was a good one as I visit a Toby carvery quite often. Unfortunately on this occasion there were a couple of things I noticed which were contradictory to what I’ve come to expect and have previously enjoyed. Firstly the poor waiter/server seemed to be the only one doing that particular role and was run off his feet. This didn’t impact me personally, I am only offering an observation. Sadly though what did affect myself and my partner was the fact there was no Turkey available and the roast Beef was extremely stringy, difficult to cut on the plate and even more difficult to chew. Although it looked good at the heated serving counter and appeared not to be a problem for the Chef to slice it conjures up the old saying that looks can be deceiving. This is the very first time I have experienced that so can only imagine the hard life the Cow had.
Visited early afternoon on December 16th as part of a large group. It was frankly awful. Had to wait around 20 minutes to be seated, despite having booked several weeks in advance and the place was basically empty. Then came the waiting to have orders taken, another 20+ minutes. Children's food arrived and the portions were pitiful at best. The carvery was very underwhelming too, waiting over 10 minutes to be served the guy serving was quite rude and wasn't wearing gloves, he also coughed into his hand and then didn't wash his hands after. The 'slices' of meat were wafer thin and some of the group got nothing but flaky bits from the bottom of the trays, the meat was all very VERY dry and tasteless. The vegetables were overcooked and nothing was labeled. The gravy was lukewarm and again, was not labeled (as to what kind of gravy it was or any allergy info). When it came time to get desserts when we were eventually able to flag down a member of staff, not a single option from the full menu was available, and only the apple crumble from the kids menu! I sincerely don't think I will be back after this experience.
The staff are very friendly and approachable, food is lovely seen such a massive improvement in the restaurant. Must’ve changed managers since my previous visit in the summer. Place looks much cleaner and more welcoming. Food was hot and enjoyable.
Had a great experience here. Staff were so lovely, welcoming and went above and beyond to make our visit a good one. Had the carvery. Most of the meats were lovely (beef was chewy though) and the extras were slightly hot or miss the mash potatoes were a favourite. All as expected with a carvery though. Also in a lovely building with a great atmosphere. Would definitely return if we can.
Staff here are great, food is near enough always spot on and still decently priced.
