About us

Sitting in a somewhat neglected area just south of Aldgate, this was until 2007 the abysmal and somewhat notorious Bar Bed. Now however a new bar has taken its place under the name Zeppelin Shelter. Sure enough inside you'll find plenty of war related nostalgia. From the George V tea tray on the piano to the various military hats on the wall and the reproduction newspapers in the loos, it's a subtle nod to a theme (unlike the sledgehammer of a name). Whatever happened to the interior as Bar Bed removed most traces of what original features may have been here, but there's still enough remnants to create a proper pub feeling. Service was friendly, the solitary ale (Wandle) was well kept (the beers were off on the other two hand pumps) and the tunes healthily eclectic. The upstairs bar has darts, pool (£1) and an Elvis pintable, plus access to a small terrace. All-in-all, name notwithstanding, The Zeppelin Shelter is big improvement on the Bar Bed and a handy place for pub games.

Great little pub with very friendly staff. I was working away for a few days last week and used this pub each night. Very well run and I'll definitely return when next in the area. Thanks for looking after me

Stopped in for some pub food and beer. They have there own cask ale and other beers on tap. Ordered pizza that was very good and Shepherd Pie which was good. After eating went to the upstairs terrace which has an inside and outside area. Enjoyed the rest of the evening there.

Really nice pub with good vibes. Good selection of food & drink. Shepard's pie was okay, nothing special. Stick with pizza's, seems what they are known for. Cider, Aspall cider was very good, easy to drink with perfect carbonation. Seems really popular with the locals, having a good crowd on a Wednesday night. Swing by if you're in the area.

A very traditional East end pub on the corner of Alie street. Gentle and friendly with a compact range of keg beers. Also a couple of casks for the real ale enthusiasts (only one on today, possibly called 1810 or Black Horse) lovely people, great service and a good pint. Pop down for a beer. Have fun.
