Our pubs heritage is bound up with Canary Wharf, part of the West India Docks, the finest of the enclosed docks once vital to the Port of London. Henry Addington was the First Viscount Sidmouth and Prime Minister between 1801 and 1804. He enjoyed the favour of George III because, as a doctor, he had treated him through one of his bouts of madness.

The Henry Addington is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Good Nicholson's pub less than five minutes walk from Canary Wharf Underground Station. Six cask beers on handpump when I visited. Lots of outdoor seating overlooking Middle Dock some of it covered. The pub is named after the Prime Minister (1801-4) who allowed the original Canary Wharf docks to be built.

I found the staff really helpful and friendly. They made sure we were comfortable and our waitress was very attentive. The Ales choice and condition were excellent. Our pies were also very good. It has a feel of a proper pub, but hidden away in a predominantly commercial area.

Great location, by the river and great view of the city. Indoor and outdoor tables. Fish and chips were so good, the staff wasn't friendly and didn't know why they don't have Sunday roast on Sunday which was promoted in their page! Drinks were good, decent price.

Popped into the Henry Addington midweek for a spot of lunch and wasn't disappointed. The menu was wide and varied from pies to soup to burgers and some other pub staples . It wasn't particularly busy, but the service was top notch with friendly brisk service to our table. Good selection of drinks available on tap and bottled so definitely something for everyone.

Real ale on tap, the best pies around and a comfy bench seat at the table indoors, a good traditional style pub for a pie and a pint
