Our refurbished Victorian inn, surrounded by the thatched cottages and flower gardens of Wiltshire’s picturesque Tollard Royal, strikes the ideal balance between rustic hideaway and relaxing village pub.
Our award-winning restaurant, which has earned 2 AA Rosettes, produces an impressive best-of-British menu featuring fresh fish, game, meat and vegetables, all sourced locally. And in the warmer months, our large terraced garden, complete with outdoor kitchen, offers the chance for relaxed alfresco dining.
Guests can stay overnight in one of our eight beautifully appointed bedrooms, each of which features antique furnishings, a king-sized bed and en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath or rain shower.
We are located in the heart of the Cranborne Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers wonderful walking, cycling and riding opportunities. Shooting and fishing are a way of life here and you can try your hand at both on nearby estates and rivers. Or for a cultural day out head to the cathedral city of Salisbury to explore its shops, museums and fine historic houses.

gorgeous village pub in stunning countryside. nicely changing menu, lovely wine & beer line-up, excellent friendly service. difficult to find anything better!
The food was poor and possibly the worst Sunday roast experience which was a pity because the venue is lovely. My wife found a hair in her meal and her beef was poorly carved the meat was much too thick and impossible to cut. The roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were undercooked which gave the impression that this was an end of service meal. The gravy bland and lacking flavour a bit like this review…..! It takes a lot to get five meals so wrong which is a shame really as the staff were friendly so no complaints about the service.
We had a fantastic lunch at the King John. The food was excellent (especially the scotch egg) and the service was great. The location is very good for exploring the local countryside and an ideal half-way stop for a walk starting from the National Trust car park at Win Green. Highly recommended for a good pub lunch or dinner.
Had an excellent roast dinner here. The best I've had out for a long time. The service delivery was outstanding and very accommodating to my mother's disability. Dog friendly and very cozy with the fire. Clean and comfortable surroundings.
I had lunch here on 26/10/23 with a group of friends having pre booked a large group all having different dishes . The food was excellent and clearly freshly cooked to order so don’t expect instant service ( which was excellent ). The array of choices on the menu was good although I would suggest more choice for vegans or those with food intolerance? Having said that they were more than happy to “ tweak “ the dish I chose . Would highly recommend this pub to anyone , but don’t expect cheap , fast food ! It’s far better than that !
