We really enjoyed our stay here. A very well preserved beautiful hotel in a quiet neighbourhood. Rooms are large and well equipped. Fantastic breakfast with lots of options from vegie grill plate to pancakes. Lovely staff. Take a walk in the garden before leaving!
A very unique house with lot of potential. When I visited I noticed a big difference between expectation and reality. The house and hotel itself got a lot of potential, but I might have visited during a time when the hotel only was a Shell of its former glory? Dust, flies, low staffed, Odd arrangement of the breakfast (you had to order and it was very minimally arranged on the tables), the poor staff had to run between desk and bar. The room was big and cozy. The bathroom was a huge dissapoontment (no hot water in the shower, the toalett didnt flush properly). All in all, ok stay but way too overpriced for what you got. Its too bad because I can see it living up to earlier reviews, but something must have happened along the way.
The bar area is worth having a drink at. Young gentleman was serving. The rooms are well kept. The showers are dreadful. Having real plants in the glass house breakfast area would have made up for this but no they’re fake. Apart from these tiny cons, I had a good stay at this hotel.
This hotel feels short staffed - but during our stay, the staff member we interacted with most often was simply fantastic. This location offers some rooms in a historic house - and some in a modern detached building. The suites we stayed in were spacious. The beds were very firm. The offered pillows were also very firm. We requested softer pillows, which were delivered. It was a bit surprising that the newer rooms did not offer air conditioning... A fan was present in each room. But truthfully? We didn't need air conditioning. The room windows open out - and the fresh air was great! We had food delivered - and staff caught up to us as we returned to our room with plates, cutlery and napkins.
As recommended by a review I had read, I requested a room with a garden view which put us in the "newer" building beside the original house. The view was fine, but we might have preferred staying in the original house as it's the main reason we booked here. The room was clean though and quite spacious. The mattress was comfortable. I don't know if the original house would have been of the same size and comfort. Breakfast was great. Guests receive a complimentary yogurt parfait, mini croissant and oat flapjack. The staff were wonderful! We had dinner on our last evening at the hotel as a band was playing. The food was okay. It was more expensive than the restaurants we had gone to in town the previous two nights and not as good either. The restaurant was closed the first two nights we were there due to staff shortages. The location is outside of the busier town which was also nice. We drove into town during the day and paid for parking, but it is also walkable (about 30 minutes).
