Only bother going if you want to be moaned at by the manager. We arrived just after 7 and it was rammed. From being told off for ‘unacceptable behaviour’ when my nieces friend accidentally dropped an ice cube, to be being thrown out for our disabled friend having someone accompany her while using the toilet. Hate to say it, but not all disabilities are visible. The response from the manager was shocking, not everyone has the low standards she clearly has. Only positive, the security guard who had to deal with a our crying friend due to the managers lack of understanding about unseen disabilities and making reasonable adjustments for someone who cannot be left alone. Maybe this explains why the majority of people had left by 9pm. Head office weren’t bothered either. Absolutely disgraceful
I am really disgusted with this pub. I visited on Friday for my works Christmas do. The downstairs disabled toilet was unlocked and after a man left the toilet, myself and a friend went in. I am epileptic and do not go into public toilets alone incase of seizures. When we were in the toilet, there was a knock at the door (which we thought was the group of boys that were standing right outside), we said hello but there was no answer so proceeded to use the toilet. As myself and my friend came out- the security man was standing there and told us he was throwing us out because his manager told him too. I questioned why and he said because you two went into the toilet together. I explained that I am epileptic and cannot use the toilet alone and I did say that there is no sign or rule up anywhere to state that two girls cannot use the toilet together. I asked to speak to the manager that had said this and he said I will get her down and she will talk to you but you need to leave. My friend and I stood outside talking to the security guard until the rude manager appeared. I explained the same thing to her that I was epileptic and she said well that doesn’t matter, there is nothing physically wrong with you. Absolutely disgusting and discriminating. I said I have my medical card in my bag and again I got told that I don’t look disabled. I questioned if I was in a wheelchair would I then be able to have someone in with me to which she replied yes because there’s a disability. She went on to say that she knocked on the door because we were clearly doing something. Which yes- we were using the toilet. I apologised and said that we thought it was the group of boys and we did say hello but had no reply. I made a point of saying that there are no notices within that pub that says two people are not allowed in a cubicle and her reply was it would be the same if it was two blokes. I’m absolutely disgusted with the amount of discrimination and rudeness I received that night. I have visited that pub multiple times and I cannot believe what came out of the managers mouth. She should not be a manager if she’s going to be discriminating someone especially because they look fine so clearly haven’t got anything. Absolute vile human being. However the security guard seemed apologetic once I had explained to him. I will not be going in her ever again and I urge others not to either.
Nice place, polite personnel, variety of drinks and food, good quality. Service a bit slower than expected but it was fairly busy on Saturday noon. Would recommend for families/group of friends / casual dinner as the atmosphere was relaxing and the place welcoming.
Wow, didn't realise that the rear of the pub garden is actually the outer castle wall. Friendly staff and food was hot when it arrived the table. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area. Popped back in when we visited Hertford again quieter in the morning.but still great service.. Had spotted some but not all of the Heraldic decor of which there's lots so took a couple more pics.
